Saints vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction

The later we get into the NFL regular season, the more games there are each Sunday that are, for all intents and purposes, for the die-hard fans of the franchises involved. Other than Saints and Giants fans (and Sports Interaction faithful) nobody will really pay attention to this game. Then again, at 4-8, the Saints are only a couple of games behind the 6-6 Falcons and Buccaneers.

As poor as the Giants have been this season, the Saints are -5 favourite according to our NFL odds, which isn’t significant chalk.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

A look at some of the final scores between these teams over the years reveals some stunning data. A 48-27 Saints win in 2009, a 49-24 Saints win in 2011, a 52-27 Giants win in 2012, and a 33-18 Saints win in 2018. That said, the quarterbacks were different during these games, and New York doesn’t look like a squad that can put up a 50 burger. Maybe the Saints if they can revert to their Week 1 and Week 2 selves.

More modern iterations of these clubs contended in 2021 and 2023, with the spoils split 1-1.

New Orleans doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence. They’re 4-8 straight-up, 5-7 against the spread, are most likely not going to the playoffs unless something wild happens in the NFS South, and have scored more than 20 points in a game twice in their last six matches (one being a 23-22 defeat). Worse, the human gadget that is Taysom Hill (knee) is out for the remainder of the season and he was the player who helped them tally as many as 35 points a few weeks ago.

New York is 2-10 straight up and 2-9-1 ATS. They have failed to cover their last seven opportunities. Things were pretty bad when they lost to the Carolina Panthers as -7 favourites. We cannot make this any clearer: they have the worst offence (15.3 points, 32nd), something their 18th-ranked defence (23.3 points per game) cannot make up for. Of note, QB Tommy DeVito is questionable (undisclosed), as is CB Deonte Banks (undisclosed) and G Jermaine Eluemunor (undisclosed).

New Orleans Saints

The pre-bye good vibes that came from winning a couple of games ended at home last week against the Los Angeles Rams, who beat them 21-14.

It wasn’t the worst performance ever, but not very inspired. New Orleans’ defence pitched a shutout at halftime – and led 6-0 – and limited Matthew Stafford to only 166 passing yards all day. Still, the offence’s maddening inconsistency did no favours. The Saints were 5-15 on third down, and the only big play of the day was a fourth quarter, 28-yard raindrop into the end zone from Derek Carr to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who made a stupendous catch.

That wasn’t good enough to finish first in receiving for the Saints. That was Hill (37 yards), who is now injured. Alvin Kamara finished with 112 yards on 23 touches. He can do some damage against a porous New York run defence (145.8 yards per game).

New York Giants

The Giants are a lost operation at the moment. Their formerly coveted QB draft pick Daniel Jones is out of the building and questions abound about head coach Brian Daboll’s status.

At the very least, their performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving was not terrible. Only so much could be expected of QB Drew Lock (21-for-32, 178 yards, one pick). They tried to get WR Mailk Nabers involved (eight catches, 69 yards), which had been an issue the week before. What’s more, down 27-10 at the start of the fourth quarter, they mounted a comeback that made it 27-20. That, however, was as close as the Giants got.

The best thing the Giants can do is take a cue from the Cowboys and finally win at home (New York is 0-6 at MetLife Stadium).
