Saints vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction

The Chiefs are 5.5-point favourites and, yes, Taylor Swift is likely to be in attendance.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Kansas City is the only remaining unbeaten team in the AFC and remains the +500 favourite to become the first club to win three straight Super Bowls. Barring Patrick Mahomes getting injured, the AFC West is practically already in the bag for a ninth straight season with a two-game lead.

New Orleans (2-2) is second in the NFC South, a game out of Tampa Bay’s lead. The Saints are +200 to win the division and -115 to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020. If they don’t, then head coach Dennis Allen likely is not back for a fourth season in 2025. He’s back on a hot seat with the team having dropped two straight games following a dominant 2-0 start.

The Chiefs are 7-5 all-time vs. the Saints, and they have never met in the playoffs. Kansas City won its third straight in the series in 2020 by a score of 32-29 at home. Mahomes threw for three scores, while New Orleans was still quarterbacked by all-time great and since-retired Drew Brees.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been rather unlucky the past two games, losing at home by three points to Philadelphia in Week 3 on a touchdown with 1:01 remaining and then New Orleans QB Derek Carr throwing an interception. This past Sunday, the Saints lost 26-24 in Atlanta on a Younghoe Koo career-long 58-yard field goal with two seconds left. A defensive pass interference penalty got the Falcons within range. New Orleans was the better team statistically but had two turnovers. The Falcons scored touchdowns on a fumble recovery off a muffed punt and an interception return. New Orleans tight end/hybrid QB Taysom Hill had two rushing scores before leaving injured. Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and safety Tyrann Mathieu also had to leave. The Saints already were missing injured linebacker Demario Davis as well as offensive linemen Erik McCoy and Cesar Ruiz. New Orleans averaged 45.5 points in his first two games and just 20.5 in the past two. The Saints are 5-1 ATS in their past six.

Kansas City Chiefs

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, but Kansas City is both so far. Its four wins have come by a combined 19 points, and the Chiefs are only the third team in NFL history to start 4-0 with at least a seven-point comeback in each game. They were down 10 in the first half Sunday in Los Angeles but beat the Chargers 17-10 – Kansas City’s 10th straight win overall including playoffs. In his 100th career regular-season start, Patrick Mahomes threw for a score and had a pick. He’s now 18-14 all-time in NFL starts (including playoffs) when down at least 10 points, the best such record in league history (minimum 15 starts). Alas, the victory was very costly with stellar second-year WR Rashee Rice, who has emerged as clearly the No. 1 guy, suffering a likely season-ending injury. The team will now need more from first-round rookie Xavier Worthy, who leads the team’s healthy wideouts in catches (nine), yards (154) and touchdowns (two). Coach Andy Reid suggested JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore were two wide receivers who could get more playing time. The Chiefs are 1-4 ATS in their past five Monday games.
