Both teams had aspirations of good seasons, but even the most artistic forecasters couldn’t have predicted both of these teams competing for NFC supremacy, and the possibility of knocking on the Super Bowl’s door.
Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These two teams have met 73 times all-time, including one post season game, with the Rams holding a 40-33 record in those games. The last time these two teams met was back in November 27, 2016, with the Rams edging the Saints 40-33. Since 2010, these two teams have split the four games played against each other. Of note, the Saints are 0-4 ATS in their last four meetings in Los Angeles, while the home team in this series is 5-0 ATS in their last five games.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints enter this game as one of the NFL’s hottest teams, winners of eight straight games (8-2 SU, 7-3 ATS). In fact, the Saints haven’t lost a game since September 17 when the New England Patriots embarrassed them at home 36-20. The offence has always been there for the Saints, ranked number one in the entire NFL (total yards 4157), led by future hall of famer Drew Brees, and a two headed monster in the backfield in Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. But the defence has been the story this season. Currently ranked third overall in total defence (222) in six of the eight Saints wins, they have held their opposition to 17 or less points scored.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are coming off only their third loss of the season, as they fell to the Vikings in Minnesota 24-7. The Rams opened the scoring in that game, but watched the Vikings score 24 unanswered to seal the victory. They are 7-3 on the season (6-4 ATS). In the last five games, they are 4-1. In those five games, the Rams defence (16th Total Defence) only allowed 65 points against, for an average of 15 points against per game. On the offensive side, they are top ten in most categories, including total yards (4th – 375.4), passing yards (9th – 255), rushing yards (9th – 120.4) and points (2nd – 30.3).
