Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Washington leads the all-time series 7-3 and won the most recent one in 2013, 30-24 in overtime in Maryland. The then-San Diego Chargers had first-and-goal at the Washington 1-yard line at the end of regulation but couldn’t convert on three tries and opted to kick the tying field goal instead of going on fourth down. Washington scored a TD on its first OT possession. The Redskins’ QB that day was Robert Griffin III, now out of the league. Philip Rivers, still going strong for the Bolts, threw for 341 yards with two touchdowns.

This is the Redskins’ third game of four vs. the AFC West this season; Washington beat visiting Oakland 27-10 back in Week 3 but lost in Kansas City the following Week, 29-20. It’s also Washington’s second trip to L.A. of the season as it won at the Rams in Week 2, 27-20. The Chargers are 2-1 vs. the NFC East, losing at home to the excellent Eagles in Week 4 (26-24), winning at the Giants in Week 5 (27-22) and winning in Dallas (28-6) on Thanksgiving.

The Chargers are 5-5 SU & 4-6 ATS against the spread in their past 10 as a home favourite.

Washington Redskins

Stick a fork in the playoff hopes of the Redskins (5-7 SU, 5-7 ATS). They faced a must-win game last Thursday night at Dallas, another desperate team, but lost convincingly 38-14 against a club that had dropped three straight and totaled 22 points in those losses. The Redskins couldn’t stop the Dallas rushing attack, which managed 182 yards. Kirk Cousins had two TD passes, becoming the first Washington QB ever with three straight 20-TD passing seasons, but two interceptions and a lost fumble; the Skins turned it over four times overall and allowed an 83-yard punt return touchdown.

Top receiver Jamison Crowder muffed a pass that in the end zone that led to an interception and fumbled on a punt return, his third such gaffe this season. It was truly a lost night all around, and speculation is mounting that Coach Jay Gruden could be in trouble after the season as the team will surely miss the playoffs for the third time in his four years.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Bolts (6-6 SU, 6-5-1 ATS) now find themselves tied for first in the AFC West despite starting the season 0-4 – it has also helped that the Kansas City Chiefs, the last team in the league to lose this season, have imploded. L.A. won its third straight Sunday, 19-10 over the winless Cleveland Browns. Philip Rivers threw for 344 yards and a touchdown. Keenan Allen caught 10 balls for 105 yards and a touchdown. It was his third game in a row with double-digit catches, at least 105 yards and a minimum of one score.
