NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

We know one former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback will start Monday in Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson but we don’t know whether Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton will be under centre for New Orleans – although it probably will be Dalton.

It’s the first meeting since 2018 when the Saints won 24-23 in Baltimore. Justin Tucker, the best kicker in NFL history, missed the first PAT conversion of his career after the Ravens scored the potential tying touchdown with 24 seconds left. I guarantee you that Tucker still remembers that. Joe Flacco was the Ravens’ starting QB then and threw for 279 yards and two scores. Drew Brees was still around for the Saints and threw for 212 yards and two scores. Alvin Kamara had a rushing TD.

The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore was a 27-22 winner at Tampa Bay on Thursday in Week 8 as Jackson threw for 238 yards and two scores and the team rushed for 231 yards. The news wasn’t all good as one of Jackson’s top receivers, Rashod Bateman, injured his foot and will miss some time. Simply because of Jackson, the Ravens are probably good enough on offence to reach the Super Bowl, but their defence has had issues. Perhaps that has been solved as on Monday the team acquired Chicago Bears All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith, the NFL’s leading tackler, for draft picks.

The defence may get another boost with the NFL debut of second-round pass-rusher David Ojabo this week. Ojabo started his rookie campaign on Baltimore’s reserve/non-football injury list after tearing his Achilles during the pre-draft process in March. He was terrific at Michigan last year. The Ravens are 2-5 ATS in their past seven Monday games.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints beat the Raiders 24-0 on Sunday, the first time the Silver & Black had been shut out in eight years. New Orleans allowed just 183 yards, had an interception, four sacks, seven tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, eight passes defended and nine stops on 14 third-down attempts. Andy Dalton threw for 229 yards and two scores and presumably will keep the starting job over Jameis Winston. Alvin Kamara rushed for a TD and had two TD catches.

No. 2 running back Mark Ingram suffered an MCL sprain and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. Starting receivers Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry and Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore were all out again injured. The Saints are 0-4 ATS in their past four Monday games.
