This game could be the biggest miss-match of the week 16 schedule, as an angry Rams team travels to Arizona to play a helpless Cardinals squad. Both of these teams enter this game on two game losing streaks, but one team is a division leader, the other is vying for the first overall pick.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These two teams met back in week two with the Rams destroying the Cardinals 34-0. Todd Gurley scored three touchdowns, while receiver Brandin Cooks had his best statistical game of the season with a seven catch, 159 yard effort.
The Rams might be an 11-3 team, but 5-8-1 against the spread this season. However, in the last three games played have outscored the Cardinals 99-16, including shutting them out two times.
Most of the numbers, if not all of them, favour the Rams. The Rams are 4-1 ATS against the Cards in the last five games. The road team in this series is 6-2 ATS, and the favourite is 4-0 ATS in the last four games.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have lost three games all season, but two of those losses have happened in the last two weeks, and that should be of concern to the organization. The good news; the Rams can remedy everything that ails them this week, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that this game against the Cardinals is the largest point of the week at Sports Interaction.
To their defence, it’s been a tough schedule; their last 2 games have been against the Bears in Chicago, and the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles who were desperate for a win last week. But this Rams team isn’t showing the same moxy, swag, whatever you want to call it like they did when they started the season going 8-0 out of the gate.
The finger pointing has begun and it starts with Quarterback Jared Goff. After throwing just six interceptions in the first 11 games, Goff has thrown six interceptions in his last two games. Next, there’s Todd Gurley. Gurley had the league’s rushing yardage lead just three weeks ago, and with two poor games, it’s now gone. In the last two games, Gurley has rushed for 76 yards and has only carried the ball 23 times. Previous to this his season average was 23 carries per game.
This might be the worst team in football. There will always be a debate, but the Arizona Cardinals are part of the conversation. The Cards enter this game with a 3-11 record with two games remaining, both on the road where they are 2-5 and surprisingly better when not playing at home. The Cardinals franchise hasn’t been .500 since the 2015 season.
There isn’t quarterback controversy brewing in Arizona despite Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks’ decision to bring Mike Glennon into last week’s blowout versus the Falcons. Glennon played well in his relief appearance going 10-for-14 for 111 yards. But Wilks said postgame that Josh Rosen would start the team’s Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Cardinals team is last, or near last in most offensive categories; currently 32nd in team rushing (82.4), team passing (160.8), total offence (243.1), points scored (13.7), and 3rd down percentage (30.4). There isn’t much more to be said about that.
The Cardinals had a hard time containing Falcons running back Tevin Coleman last week. Coleman has not had a very good year running the ball in absence of starter Devonte Freeman, but he looked like an All-Pro this past Sunday tearing up the Cards defence for 145 yards on only 11 carries and one touchdown. Now, imagine what happens when they face Todd Gurley and the Rams this weekend?
