All signs are pointing to the Oakland Raiders starting their year without All-Pro lineman Kahlil Mack. How or why they haven’t found a way to get a new deal inked is beyond everyone’s comprehension, but the Raiders aren’t wavering. Meanwhile, Seattle is just hoping to escape this game healthy and enter the season relatively unscathed.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Seahawks come in favoured by -3.5 but it could be a misleading spread. The Raiders need to see what they have in the cupboard a lot more than the Seahawks because there is a much larger hole to fill across the Bay Bridge than there is in the Pacific Northwest.

Seattle is 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight Thursday nighters while Oakland sits a measly 1-5-1 ATS over their last seven games in general. The big story will be, can Oakland find their diamond in the rough? Our odds makers have little faith in the black and silver, which is why their 3.5-point underdogs on our NFL Odds board.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders made some alterations to their D-line this past offseason. They moved Bruce Irvin to the line from linebacker (although they also tinkered with this last season) and drafted PJ Hall and Maurice Hurst to give Mack even more youth and flexibility to play with as well. All of these moves are almost all for nothing though, if the big man is sitting on his sofa.

Seeing how the Raiders and Mack are still quite a ways apart in their contract talks, the door is open for a temporary replacement. Cornellius “Tank” Carradine got his shot to start the preseason and it looks like the Raiders will leave the keys in his hands the rest of the way through.

Seattle Seahawks

The tides seem to be turning with sources suggesting the Seahawks could be in line for another 9-7 season. This is a very different tune from the “full rebuild” talk of just a few months ago. Nonetheless, the only way the 12th Man will be happy in Seattle this season is if they stay healthy this Thursday.

Star wide out Doug Baldwin has said his knee won’t be 100% this season, while veteran linebacker KJ Wright had his knee scoped on Monday. They’ll need all hands on deck this season so making it through the Raiders reserves will be paramount this week.
