Raiders vs. Rams Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The Las Vegas Raiders aim to build on a 20-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks in their pre-season road when they visit the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night at SoFi Stadium. With their starters on the sidelines, the Los Angeles Rams posted a 13-6 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Chargers in last weekend’s pre-season opener. The Rams now seek to avoid going winless at home in pre-season action for the first time since the franchise relocated from St. Louis five years ago.
The Raiders have emerged as strong 6.5-point favourites on the NFL odds, with the total pegged at just 35.0.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Joint practices this week involving these two teams are looking likely to stir a little bit of healthy animosity ahead of Saturday night’s contest. Wednesday’s practice session featured game-day intensity and was marked by a number of on-field skirmishes. However, with neither team expected to provide their starters with much playing time, it remains unclear just how much of that emotion will carry over into this Week 2 preseason matchup.
This also marks the first time these teams have clashed since the 2019 pre-season. Los Angeles has dominated in recent clashes with the Raiders, going 4-1 straight up (SU) and 5-0 against the spread (ATS) their past five regular-season matchups, and is 2-1 SU and ATS over their past three August tilts.
Las Vegas Raiders
With Nathan Peterman under center for the entire evening, the Raiders opened their schedule with a decisive 20-7 win over Seattle. The Vegas ground game accounted for both of the team’s two TDs, with newcomers Trey Tagas and BJ Emmons scoring on short runs.
The Raiders defence also stood tall, limiting the Seahawks to just 194 total yards, and continued to perform at peak capacity in Wednesday’s joint workout with the Rams. Vegas defenders picked off Rams pivot Matthew Stafford on three occasions, while also confounding LA on the ground. Of course, the Raiders defence is unlikely to see Stafford this weekend but should be brimming with confidence as they pursue their eighth win over their past 10 August contests.
Los Angeles Rams
Last week’s 13-6 loss to the Chargers leaves the Rams facing the same concerns that bedevilled them down the stretch last season. Los Angeles has now lost four of six since Week 14 of last year while scoring more than 20 points on just one occasion during that stretch.
With Stafford not expected to see game action, Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges are once again set to run the LA offence. Hodges, who started six games for Pittsburgh in 2019, received the lion’s share of the snaps vs the Chargers, but it was Perkins who turned more heads despite passing for just 42 yards. Ranked 16th in the nation in passing yards in his final season under center with the Virginia Cavaliers, Perkins is also a very capable rushing quarterback and could cause a big headache for a Rams defence that struggled to contain the rush in last weekend’s loss to the Chargers.
