Raiders vs. Patriots Point Spread: NFL Week 1 Odds, Prediction
Pro football is back with Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season, which includes a matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium in New England. It is a showdown between two AFC rivals who both missed the playoffs by a country mile last year with twin 4-13 records.
These two teams have squared off twice in the last three seasons, and Las Vegas has won both contests – 30-24 in 2022 and 21-17 a year later, both times at home.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
With similar expectations heading into the 2025 campaign, Las Vegas and New England are really separated by nothing more than home-field advantage when it comes to the odds for this weekend’s game. The Patriots come in as slight 2.5 favourites (-118) on the NFL odds board, making the Raiders +2.5 underdogs (-102). On the money line, the home side carries -140 odds, and the visitors are +115 underdogs. The game total is 43.5 points, with both the Over and the Under priced at -110.
The Patriots have won six of the previous eight head-to-head meetings dating back to 2005, but the majority of those results came during the Tom Brady era and can largely be discounted. For whatever it’s worth, the Under has cashed in four of the last five encounters between the Raiders and Patriots.
Las Vegas Raiders
A legendary franchise now has a legendary head coach in Pete Carroll. The 73-year-old won two National Championships at USC and a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013. Combined with both Seattle and New England, Carroll has taken teams to the playoffs 12 times.
In Las Vegas, Carroll has a roster that seemingly could go either way in terms of a playoff berth. Former Seahawks QB Geno Smith is reunited with his former head coach, and tight end Brock Bowers is a serious weapon. Maxx Crosby recently signed a new deal to continue anchoring the defence, so there are some pieces with which to work.
New England Patriots
Have the Patriots found the right head coach in the aftermath of the Bill Belichick era? Jerod Mayo certainly did not work out in his only season at the helm, so now the task at hand belongs to former New England linebacker Mike Vrabel. The 50-year-old spent six seasons leading the Tennessee Titans (2018 through 2023), resulting in a pair of AFC South titles and three playoff appearances.
Although the rebuilding process may not be immediate, the pieces are in place. As usual, the Patriots project to be stout on defence. On the other side of the ball, they have their quarterback of both the present and the future in the 2024 third overall pick, Drake Maye.

Neither side could stop anyone in 2024. New England’s defence started relatively strong but imploded down the stretch. Las Vegas finished No. 26 league-wide in points allowed. Both struggled mightily in the department of forcing turnovers, with the Patriots second-to-last with 12 and the Raiders just barely ahead with 13.
This presents a nice opportunity for both quarterbacks to do some damage on Sunday. In the end, the visitors’ mix of veterans and youth (mainly rookie RB Ashton Jeanty) may seize the upper hand in an exciting contest. Look for Las Vegas to leave New England with a 24-23 victory. That said, taking the 2.5 points instead of the money line could be a good play in what will likely be a close game.
