The Raiders arrive at Mile High riding a two-game straight up losing streak, and they saw things go from bad to worse earlier this week with Jon Gruden’s resignation as head coach under a cloud of controversy. The Broncos return home looking to rediscover their offensive touch after falling 27-19 in Pittsburgh last week, and have now lost two in a row since opening the campaign with three straight victories.

Denver is a 3.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 44.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s Week 6 matchup marks the first meeting of the season between these AFC West rivals. The Raiders have claimed the outright victory in four of their past five clashes with the Broncos, and swept the season series last year, including a narrow 32-31 victory in Denver. While Las Vegas failed to cover as 2.5-point road chalk in that Week 17 matchup, they have otherwise been a reliable bet when facing the Broncos, covering in each of their previous six meetings. However, the Raiders have struggled to claim outright wins when visiting Denver, going 2-7 in their past nine. Low scoring has also been a consistent them when these two teams meet, with the total going UNDER in 10 of their past 12, including five of six at Mile High.

The betting line for Sunday afternoon’s matchup has tilted in Denver’s favour, with the Broncos climbing to 3.5-point favourites since opening at -2.5. Despite that movement, sports bettors have remained divided, with an almost an equal number of bets getting laid on each of these two teams. The total has remained largely stable at 44 despite 63 per cent of sports bettors taking the UNDER.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders found themselves in crisis mode earlier this week following the sudden resignation of their head coach, Gruden. And the controversy could not have come at a worse time. After opening the season with three straight wins on the strength of a steady attack, the Raiders offence has fallen silent over the past two weeks, scoring just 23 total points in back-to-back defeats, capped by last week’s stunning 20-9 loss to the visiting Chicago Bears. While Rich Bisaccia has been forced to deal with the media feeding frenzy since taking over as interim head coach, he inherits a Raiders team that is battered but has avoided major injury.

Denver Broncos

Like the Raiders, the Broncos have also stumbled offensively while seeing a 3-0 start halted by their current two-game losing streak. Denver feasted on bottom-feeding opponents during their fast start, claiming victory by double-digit margins over the Giants, Jets, and Jaguars, but have wilted in the face of stiffer competition, scoring just 26 total points in losses to Baltimore and Pittsburgh. If the Broncos are to stop their slide, it will likely be due to the efforts of the team’s defence. Denver has scored just one touchdown outside of garbage time during their current swoon, but is well positioned to contain a flailing Raiders attack that has scored just two total first-half touchdowns this season, and averaged just 236 total yards of offence over the past two weeks.
