NFL Week 17 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

There is small motivation for the Raiders as a victory would give the franchise its first non-losing season since 2016, but it has to be considered a disappointing first year in Las Vegas as the Silver & Black were 6 -3 at one point and right in the playoff chase.

As for Denver, it will finish with a losing season for a fourth straight year, and the Broncos’ campaign really went off the rails before the first game when star pass-rusher Von Miller suffered a season-ending injury in practice. Injuries really decimated this team.

In Week 10, the Raiders were 3.5-point home favourites vs. the Broncos and rolled to a 37-12 win – back when Las Vegas was playing perhaps its best football. The game was just 10-6 in favour of the Raiders at the half, but they dominated after intermission. Both Josh Jacobs and Devontae Booker rushed for two touchdowns. QB Derek Carr didn’t do much but wasn’t asked to. On the flip side, young Broncos QB Drew Lock was awful in completing just 23 of 47 with four interceptions.

The Raiders have covered six straight meetings in the series, and the total has gone under in 10 of the previous 11.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders probably won’t be too crazy in free agency this offseason because they don’t have much salary-cap space. There’s talk that Coach Jon Gruden doesn’t love Carr, but Carr is having a fine season in completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,732 yards, 25 TDs, seven picks and a rating of 102.2 that’s ninth in the league. He played through a major groin injury last Saturday and the Raiders should have beaten the Miami Dolphins, but Vegas and Gruden simply gave it away in the final seconds with incredibly poor decision-making. Carr should start this game.

Two huge bright spots this year have been Jacobs and tight end Darren Waller. The latter has 98 catches for 1,079 yards and eight touchdowns and is seven catches away from surpassing Tim Brown’s single-season franchise record of 104 catches set in 1997. Jacobs has 976 yards rushing and 10 TDs despite missing a game. The Raiders are 2-5-1 ATS in their past eight as road favourites.

Denver Broncos

Reports are that Coach Vic Fangio will return for a third season, but as usual quarterback is the big question mark in the offseason for Denver. Lock is tied for the league lead with 15 picks – the 2019 second-round pick will look excellent one game and then terrible for 2-3 in a row. He has turned the ball over at least once in 11 straight games. Don’t be surprised if the Broncos trade for a youngish QB to push Lock, perhaps someone like the Jets’ Sam Darnold.

Denver could be without a handful of injured guys this week, including Pro Bowl linebacker Bradley Chubb and second-round rookie wideout KJ Hamler. The Broncos are 11-4 ATS in their past 15 following a loss.
