Patriots vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 17 Odds, Prediction
After clinching their first playoff appearance in four seasons, the New England Patriots have their eyes set on their first AFC East division title since 2019. They can clinch that crown at the New York Jets on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Drake Maye went 12 for 14 for 139 yards in the fourth quarter as the Patriots overcame an 11-point deficit and a bevy of injuries to defeat the host Baltimore Ravens, 28-24. The Jets have already secured a 10th consecutive losing season and 15th straight year without the playoffs. Rookie undrafted quarterback Brady Cook had two turnovers and was sacked eight times as New York dropped a 29-6 decision to the New Orleans Saints. The team has lost three straight and five of six.
New England is a heavy 13.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with the total set at 42.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Patriots are 10-5 against the spread, one of the best ATS records in the league. More importantly, they are 7-0 straight up and 6-1 ATS on the road. Meanwhile, New York is 2-4 against the spread in its last six games. New England is 8-2 straight up and against the spread in its last 10 games against the Jets. These teams have played to the Under in six of their last seven meetings. That includes last month’s 27-14 Patriots triumph at Gillette Stadium.
Maye is now firmly in second place at +165 as an MVP candidate, although he is still a considerable distance behind the Los Angeles Rams Matthew Stafford (-210).
New England Patriots
New England’s dramatic comeback against the Ravens, its 12th win of the season, was costly. Dynamic rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson, who had three touchdowns against the Jets last month, left the game with a concussion. Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and guard Jared Wilson are also currently in concussion protocol.
Defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga is out for Sunday’s contest with a foot injury, and several other key contributors are questionable. Defensive tackle Milton Williams, out since suffering an ankle injury in Week 11’s win over New York, is back to practice, but is not expected to play on Sunday.
RB Rhamondre Stevenson, who missed last month’s win over the Jets and scored a 21-yard rushing touchdown to give New England the lead late against Baltimore, may have to carry the heavy load. Rookie WR Kyle Williams, who had a 37-yard score earlier in the fourth quarter last week, could see more reps as well.
New York Jets
Despite taking eight sacks against the Saints and throwing six interceptions in three games, Cook will make his third consecutive start. He struggled mightily against the Saints’ ninth-ranked defence. What will he do against New England’s seventh-ranked unit?
The Jets were outgained, 412-195, by New Orleans, and New York’s defence, led by interim defensive coordinator Chris Harris, could not handle the Saints offence. Drake Maye, who threw for 281 yards and a touchdown against the Jets in November, should be salivating leading up to this one.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Patriots vs. Jets?
This could be a stumbling block for most teams, but coach Mike Vrabel has had the Pats locked in since starting the season 1-2. They’ve won 11 of 12, and with a division title on the line, look for New England to get the win.
With a depleted roster on both sides of the ball, the question is whether the Pats can cover the 13.5-point spread as favourites. Look for New England to take advantage of Cook’s rawness and handle the Jets, 31-10.
