Patriots vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 12 Odds, Prediction

Two of the worst teams in the NFL will go head-to-head on Sunday when the 3-8 New York Giants host the 2-8 New England Patriots. The Giants have lost three of their last four games, although they did manage to pick up a 31-19 win against Washington last week. New England had a bye in Week 11 following a 10-6 loss to the Colts in Germany two weeks ago.

The rested Patriots are 3.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, while the total sits at 34.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These teams rarely meet, but they did face off in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI, with the Giants winning both games. The last head-to-head between the teams came in Week 6 of the 2019 season, Tom Brady’s last season with the Patriots. Brady didn’t throw a touchdown pass in the 35-14 win, while New York’s Daniel Jones threw three interceptions. Brady has since retired and Jones suffered a season-ending ACL injury earlier this year.

New England is 1-3 straight up on the road this season and they enter Week 12 with losses in six of their last seven games overall. You can’t even count on them as a cover option as they’re 2-8 against the spread overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the Giants. The Pats have struggled to put points on the board this season, with the total going Under in seven of their last nine games.

The Giants have been terrible against AFC East opponents in recent years, dropping seven of their last eight games against the division. They’re just 3-7-1 ATS overall this season, including 1-2-1 ATS at home. The total has gone Under in all four of New York’s home games in 2023.

New England Patriots

New England failed to hit double-digit points for the third time in their last six games two weeks ago in Frankfurt. Quarterback Mac Jones had another terrible outing, finishing with 170 passing yards, no TDs and one interception. Jones was sacked five times before being replaced by Bailey Zappe, who also finished with no passing TDs and a pick. Rhamondre Stevenson and Demario Douglas were the most productive players on offence. Stevenson put up 88 rushing yards on 20 carries and Douglas had six catches for 84 receiving yards.

The big question on Sunday is who will play under centre. Jones has been terrible all season and has thrown for just 10 touchdowns while his 10 interceptions is the third-most in the NFL. He’s also dealing with an undisclosed injury that has him listed as questionable. Zappe hasn’t been any better, however. In limited action this season, Zappe has completed 10 of 25 pas attempts for 104 yards, no TDs and one interception.

New York Giants

Undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito came through for the Giants last week, earning his first career win in his second start. DeVito completed 18 of 26 pass attempts for 246 yards and three TDs. He also started to develop some chemistry with Saquon Barkley and Darius Slayton, who each had their best games of the season last week. Barkley finished with 140 total yards and caught two TD passes, while Slayton finished with a season-high 82 receiving yards and recorded his first touchdown catch of the season.

One concern for New York is the offensive line, which allowed DeVito to be sacked nine times last week. The Giants have been sacked an NFL-high 63 times this season, eight more than the next closest team and 23 more than the second-closest team.
