Patriots vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction
Not only because of some physical animosity in their joint practices, but also due to the history among these clubs. You’re fooling yourself if you think Bill Belichick doesn’t want to stick out to the Giants every time they meet, given New York’s 2-0 Super Bowl record against Belichick’s squad. For the Giants, Sunday is also an opportunity to get some starters some real reps, per head coach Joe Judge.
Kickoff at MetLife Stadium Sunday is set for 6 p.m. EST.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Head-to-head New England’s won six of their last nine against the Giants, but it’s New York who’s covered in seven of those games. Overall the Patriots have fit in with the recent under trend too, with the total going under in eight of their last 10 games and in all five of their last five road games.
Then there are the Giants, who are on a nine-game stretch in which the under has hit. It’s also hit in their last five home games and six of their last seven at home against New England.
Oddsmakers have set the over-under at 35.5, and New England a three-point favourite.
New England Patriots
The buzz around rookie quarterback Mac Jones is real, and he’ll be starting in Week 3 with veteran pivot Cam Newton sidelined for breaking COVID-19 protocols. In two pre-season games, Jones has 26 completions for 233 yards but has also garnished high praise during his performances in practice. With Newton out, the QB1 position is all but settled in New England.
Newton did play in New England’s 35-0 win over Philadelphia in Week 2, throwing for 103 yards and a touchdown while completing eight of nine passes. The Pats scored four times on the ground in the win, with rookie Rhamondre Stevenson finding pay dirt twice. J.J. Taylor led all running back with 12 carries for 93 yards a score.
New York Giants
Recent reports out of training camp about Daniel Jones’ play have indicated he isn’t even the best quarterback with Jones as his last name on the field. To be clear, Mac on New England has been out-dueling Daniel and that’s a problem for the 2019 sixth-overall pick. Jones is rumoured to be playing the entire first half Sunday, where he could make up for some early struggles.
New York lost 17-13 to Cleveland in Week 2, with quarterback Brian Lewerke completing 11 of 19 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Undrafted receiver David Sills caught Lewerke’s lone passing score.
