Patriots vs. Buccaneers Point Spread: NFL Week 10 Odds, Prediction

Although they’re atop the AFC East at 7-2, New England’s got just two victories against teams with winning records. A 24-23 victory last Sunday made it six straight wins for the Patriots, but arguably their toughest game yet is looming versus Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers.

The 6-2 Buccaneers are coming off a bye week, but questions still remain about the statuses of several key pieces on offence. Both running back Bucky Irving and receiver Chris Godwin Jr. did not practice on Wednesday, raising some doubt that either could return in Week 10. Tampa’s been humming all season long despite a plethora of injuries on offence, but they’ll need all hands on deck against a feisty Patriots squad.

Kickoff at Raymond James Stadium gets started at 1 p.m. EST with the Bucs -2.5 on the point spread on home field and the total at 48.5 on the Week 10 NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday’s the first meeting between the Patriots and Buccaneers since October 2021, a game in which Tom Brady started for Tampa Bay. Brady is the connection between both franchises, albeit not a ton of history exists head-to-head. A couple of trends to consider is the Patriots are 4-1 straight up in their last five battles with the Bucs, and 5-0 against the spread in those games. The under has hit in six of the last seven New England–Tampa Bay meetings.

Both quarterbacks are also sitting as top MVP candidates heading into Week 10. New England’s Drake Maye has the third-best odds at +450, while Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield is at +1700 odds but both stand as top-five MVP candidates according to NFL oddsmakers. Despite sitting first in the division at 7-2, New England is +135 to win the AFC East. The 6-2 Bills are the favourite at -175 odds.

New England Patriots

For as much love as Drake Maye as getting as he quarterbacks this Patriots offence, it’s the defence that is propelling New England to wins. Over this six-game win streak the Patriots have allowed over 20 points once, and that was last week versus Atlanta. The defence still allowed under 300 yards to Atlanta but two Maye turnovers led to 10 Atlanta points. That all said, Maye and Co. are playing some damn good football. With Rhamondre Stevenson out last week, New England ran 33 times for 110 yards. Rookie TreVeyon Hendeson led the way with 14 carries for 55 yards, and could be in line to start again as Stevenson (toe) did not practice Wednesday. Centre Garrett Bradbury (hip) and receiver Kayshon Boutte (hamstring) were also among non-participants in practice and their statuses should be monitored as the week progresses.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

All the injuries on offence don’t matter too much if Tampa Bay continues to play the way they did on defence the last time they took the field. The Bucs 23-3 win at New Orleans saw the defence force four turnovers, one of which turned directly into seven points. Anthony Nelson had a breakout day with a pick-six, a forced fumble, and two sacks while the always reliable Antoine Winfield Jr. recovered a fumble and had an interception too.

Good news has yet to come re: injuries on offence. Despite coming off a bye week, running back Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) and Chris Godwin Jr. (fibula) did not practice Wednesday. On defence, Haason Reddick (ankle/knee) was also a non-participant. Tampa Bay went running back by committee the last time they played, as Sean Tucker and Rachaad White essentially split 25 carries. Tez Johnson continued to lead the pass-catchers with five grabs for 43 yards in the Week 8 win.
