The Chicago Bears were one of the league’s early-season surprises. They were 3-1 and appeared to have a great chance to move to 4-1 when they visited the Ryan Tannehill-less Miami Dolphins following their bye week. However, a sloppy loss there combined with a loss this week to the New England Patriots would render them a very basic 3-3.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

When you start looking back, the Bears wins aren’t that impressive. They beat Seattle, edged out Arizona on the road, and crushed Tampa Bay. They haven’t beaten a quality opponent yet. They are just 20-29 SU in their last 49 as a home dog of three or less. While they are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 home games, they haven’t been favored in many as they are 8-10 SU in those contests.

As for the Patriots, they have played good teams, including handing the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the year this past week. They are 30-13 ATS in their last 43 as a favorite and are 35-8 SU in those games.

New England Patriots

The Patriots are now fully back on track. Their 1-2 start has been forgotten as they have won three straight in impressive fashion. They are averaging 39.7 points per game in that span and that’s a great sign for them this week. The Bears defence is clearly not as good as some people thought. If the Patriots turn this game into a shootout, they’ll win.

The key to this contest is confidence. The Bears are shaken after an ugly, unexpected loss at Miami. And now another loss makes them a mediocre 3-3, which deflates a lot of the early season optimism. There is pressure on them to win here.

As for the Patriots, they enter this game on a roll. They’re comfortable and confident, and should find a way to take this one.

Chicago Bears

Just when people were starting to anoint the Bears as a playoff team, they fell flat on their face in Week 6 and lost outright to the Dolphins. What’s worse is their defence, which was supposed to be one of the best in the NFL, was shredded. They gave up 380 passing yards to Brock Osweiler, 161 rushing yards to a team that had been averaging just 96 per game, and couldn’t hold a 21-10 third quarter lead.

Although Mitch Trubisky appeared to have another strong game, going 22-31 for 316 yards, three touchdowns and a pick, the numbers are misleading. The interception was a brutal one as it came on the Dolphins 13-yard line when the Bears were up 21-13 in the fourth quarter.

There were a lot of sloppy things in this game from the picks to the fumbles to the missed field goals to the terrible defence. The issue is now the Bears have to pick up the pieces and face one of the best teams in the NFL. After their worst effort of the season, if they don’t play their best this week, they’ll be facing another loss.
