Panthers vs. Seahawks Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction

Seattle is in the midst of a tight race with the 49ers for the NFC West crown, or a Wild Card spot should that mission fail. As for the Panthers, they’re trying to reach the finish line with some dignity, which they started this week by releasing quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The matchup is a close call, with Pete Carroll’s Seahawks only pinned as 4-point favourites on the NFL odds. The O/U is 44 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Even when including playoff meetings into the equation, the Seahawks have dominated their NFC West foes over the past ten meetings, going 8-2 in the process. That’s saying something given that for many of those contests former MVP Cam Newton quarterbacked the Panthers.

Despite the whirlwind of issues the Charlotte-based organization has been mired in this season, they’ve somehow clawed their way to an OK 6-6 showing against the spread. They’ve put smiles on the faces of betters more often than one would think. To their credit, five of their last six games have seen them successfully cover the spread. Still, it’s been a series of ups and downs. The pounding of the Bucs surely felt great, but the spanking received from the Bengals must have smarted.

The Seahawks are a mystery wrapped in a puzzle. They were 2-3 to start the year, then proved doubters wrong by winning four straight only to suffer a bad loss to Tampa Bay and an even worse one to the Raiders at home. One probably shouldn’t be too surprised to learn the team is 6-6 ATS.

Carolina Panthers

The general objective of returning after a bye week is to come back to the field refreshed, re-energized, and re-focused. In Carolina’s case, that’s true in more ways than one. On Tuesday the team released Baker Mayfield, putting an end to their honeymoon before their first season together ran its course.

The Baker gamble didn’t work. These things happen. Be that as it may, the team is swimming through mediocrity at 4-8 on the season. The passing game has been very poor, with the running game doing its best to carry the load. Running back D’Onta Foreman has mustered respectable numbers, but he’s listed as questionable at the time of writing. Perhaps fellow back Chuba Hubbard (Canadian!) will shine in his stead. At least the team is heading into the game with some pep in their step after walloping Denver 23-10 just before the bye.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks got away with one in Week 13. They left it late against the flailing Rams. For a while, it looked like the club would be on the wrong end of the scoresheet for the third successive week. What seemed like a promising campaign was on the cusp of completely derailing, but Geno Smith tapped into some QB magic and found wide receiver stud DK Metcalf for a game-winning score with 36 seconds left on the clock. The Seahawks won 27-23 and breathed a sigh of relief.

At 7-5, the team is looking all right, albeit not as impressive as prior to the Munich game against the Bucs. The defence is holding the team back. Only the Texans cough up more yards on the ground per game. The Rams’ run attack is 31st in the NFL and racked up 171 yards on Seattle. Woah. Defeating the Panthers at home is imperative.
