Panthers vs. Seahawks Point Spread: NFL Week 3 Odds, Prediction

If Young can’t go because of his ankle injury, veteran Andy Dalton would lead the 0-2 Panthers out on the West Coast. Seattle got their groove back in Week 2, defeating Detroit 37-31 on the road to get to 1-1.

Young’s offence thus far has by no means spectacular either. Through two NFL games Young has put up 27 total points with Carolina. But on the flip side, Seattle’s surprisingly allowed 61 points in their two outings meaning both units will look to get right Sunday.

Kickoff at Lumen Field begins at 4:05 p.m. EDT with Seattle a six-point home favourite and the total at 42 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Panthers have yet to cover this season, and to no surprise have yet to have a game go over the total. Seattle’s both 1-1 ATS and on the over-under. Head-to-head, the over has connected in seven straight Panthers-Seahawks meetings and gone over in five of the last five played in Seattle.

The Seahawks need to win essentially by at least a touchdown to cover, but that’s something they’ve struggled doing as Seattle’s covered in just two of their last 11 showings and in one of their last eight against the NFC. Seattle’s lost outright in their last five times facing and NFC South opponent as well. Carolina’s 5-0 ATS in their last five Week 3 outings.

Carolina Panthers

Young’s lack of early success/winning might have more to do with Carolina’s lack of offensive weapons. Currently Adam Thielen has a team-high 66 receiving yards, followed by tight end Hayden Hurst’s 61 receiving yards and then running back Chubba Hubbard’s 43. Carolina’s averaged about 125 rushing yards an outing so far though, while free agent addition Miles Sanders accumulating nearly half of that total.

On defence the Panthers will be down a key piece for an extended period of time as linebacker Shaq Thompson suffered an ankle injury last week in the loss versus New Orleans. Defensive end Brian Burns (ankle) and linebacker Justin Houston (calf) were both limited in Wednesday’s practice which is something to keep monitoring.

Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith’s offence got the ball in overtime at Detroit Sunday and kept the successful drives rolling with a game-winning six-yard strike to Tyler Lockett. The touchdown pass was Smith’s second of the game to Lockett with the latter also leading Seattle with eight receptions. Running back Kenneth Walker III only gained 43 yards on 17 rushing attempts but found the end zone twice.

The Seahawks remain extremely banged up on both sides of the ball. Cornerbacks Coby Bryant (toe) and Tariq Woolen (chest) sat out Wednesday’s practice, as did offensive tackle Charles Cross (toe), DK Metcalf (ribs), and several other starters. Injuries is what may keep Seattle competing at the top of the NFC for the time being.
