Panthers vs. Rams Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction
The Carolina Panthers became the first team in the NFL to fire a head coach this season as they canned Matt Rhule this week.
Speaking of being a mess on offense, the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams look lost on that side of the ball too. They have scored a total of 19 points in their last two games combined and can’t seem to move the ball any which way.
Which of these two miserable teams and offenses will get going on Sunday?
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Panthers have dropped 11 of their last 12 straight up, which is a big reason why Rhule was canned. The team is also 1-11 ATS in those games too. They have failed to cover five straight road games and are just 1-6 ATS in their last seven as a dog.
As for the Rams, they’ve won 26 of their last 37 at home. However, the team is just 1-6 ATS in their last seven games and 1-4 ATS in their last five as a favorite. We’ll see if they can turn around some of those trends on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers
If the Panthers have an opening here to win the game, it’s because the Rams offensive line has been very welcoming to opposing pass rushers this season. The Rams have allowed a league-high 21 sacks this season and it’s blowing up their passing game. The Rams – with Matt Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson – are averaging a paltry 237.4 passing yards per game. Stafford has just five touchdowns on the year along with seven interceptions.
Carolina’s offense has their own issues but this should be a low-scoring, grind-it-out type of game. That’s the type of contest they’re capable of winning – even on the road.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams offense has been unquestionably bad so far but keep in mind that they’ve faced some good defenses. The San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills rank No. 1 and No. 2, and the Dallas Cowboys rank No. 7. Each of those teams ranks in the top six in terms of sacks too. With all due respect to Carolina, they are nowhere near those defenses in the pecking order.
Taking a look at the Panthers numbers, they have just eight sacks on the year – the third-fewest. Their run defense ranks 27th. This figures to be a spot where the Rams can run the ball a little bit and take some pressure off of Stafford. And when he does drop back to throw, he should have more time to work with than he has in recent games. The Rams probably won’t dominate this game but they should look more competent than they have in recent weeks.
