Quarterback Bryce Young will be on the bench when the Carolina Panthers visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in NFL Week 3 betting action. The Panthers have elected to turn the offence over to veteran Andy Dalton after yet another tough outing for the beleaguered second-year pivot in the team’s 26-3 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers that leaves the team with a brutal 2-17 straight up record since the start of last season. The Raiders return home on a high after knocking the Baltimore Ravens 26-23 as last weekend’s biggest betting underdogs, and have now claimed victory in four of six contests since Week 14 of last season.
The Raiders return home favoured by just 5.5 points on the NFL Week 3 odds. The Panthers arrive in Sin City trailing as +200 NFL moneyline underdogs and the total is listed at 40.0.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday’s matchup marks the first meeting between these teams since 2020 and the Panthers’ first ever visit to Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders have topped the Panthers in two straight meetings, both high-scoring affairs, capped by a 34-30 victory in Carolina four years ago.
Overall, the Raiders enjoy a 4-2 run in head-to-head action, with the OVER paying out in five of seven all-time meetings. However, there is little value in that trend considering the Panthers have scored just 13 total points while losing their first two games of the season and have produced single-digit point totals in five of their past seven contests.
Not surprisingly, the Panthers are also mired in four-game losing streak against the spread and are just 2-8 ATS in their past 10 road games. Is it possible the Panthers reached rock bottom in last weekend’s loss to Los Angeles? The Chargers jumped out to a 20-0 lead while the Carolina offence stalled, generating just 39 total yards. The question is whether Andy Dalton can do any better against a Raiders defence that kept Lamar Jackson and the Ravens out of the end zone in the first half and frustrated Baltimore’s attempts to seal the win.
For Dalton, Sunday’s game marks his first start since leading the Panthers to a 37-27 loss in Seattle in Week 3 of last season. The 36-year-old impressed in that outing, connecting on 34 of 58 pass attempts for 361 yards and two touchdowns and likely offers some value as a -115 bet on the NFL player props to top 212.5 passing yards on Sunday.
Las Vegas Raiders
Gardner Minshew once again silenced his critics last weekend in Baltimore. The enigmatic journeyman passer orchestrated a trio of scoring drives in the fourth quarter that earned the Raiders a very impressive 26-23 win. Minshew finished the day with 276 passing yards and one scoring pass, and after finding the end zone at least once in six of his past eight outings, the 28-year-old may be worth backing as a +140 NFL player props bet to toss for multiple scores on Sunday.
The Raiders must do more to protect Minshew, who has been sacked nine times over the first two weeks of the season. However, more production from the ground game would help after Las Vegas rushers generated just 98 total yards through the first two weeks of the season.
