QB Bryce Young had looked a lot better this season in terms of avoiding turnovers with just two entering Sunday, but he had three. It was the fourth career game with at least three for the ex-No. 1 overall pick. The Cats played without top injured pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips and then lost starting right tackle Taylor Moton to a fractured fibula in just his second game back after returning from offseason blood clot treatment. Rookie first-round pick Morgan Freeling should take over.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay saw the season debut of Pro Bowl tailback Josh Jacobs on Sunday off suspension, and he scored but the Packers made several mistakes in a 20-17 loss in Detroit. Jacobs had a drop on what would have been the go-ahead touchdown with 3:25 remaining in the contest. Jake Bates made a 22-yard field goal as time expired for Detroit. Green Bay rookie kicker Trey Smack missed field goals of 29 and 35 yards (that was partially blocked) to become the first kicker to miss two field goals from 35 yards or closer in same game since 2019. Coach Matt LaFleur says he’s sticking with Smack. Top Green Bay linebacker Zaire Franklin missed it with a hairline fracture in his leg and centre Sean Rhyan suffered a high-ankle sprain during the game.
