The Eagles won the battle of the birds last week, improving to 10-2 with a 24-19 win over the Ravens in Baltimore. The Panthers fell 26-23 in overtime against the Buccaneers, dropping to 3-9 on the year.

Philadelphia is a massive 12.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds in the biggest spread of the week. The total is set at 46.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

While Philly is 8-4 against the spread in 2024 and Carolina is 5-7 ATS, there’s reason to back the Cats. Carolina has covered in four straight games and Philadelphia has struggled to cover big numbers. This is the Eagles’ biggest line of the season and they’ve already failed to cover their two previous biggest spreads (-8.5 against the Browns and -7.5 against the Jaguars).

While covering the spread might be tough for Philadelphia, winning outright is another story and an upset Carolina win would be shocking. The Panthers have been brutal on the road, losing 13 of their last 14 away dates. They’re also 5-23 in their last 28 games as an underdog, while Philly is riding an eight-game win streak overall.

You can likely expect points on the board. The Panthers brutal defence has led to the Over hitting in nine of 12 games this season, while the Over has also hit in seven of the Eagles’ last 10 home dates.

Carolina Panthers

A Chuba Hubbard fumble in overtime proved costly for Carolina last week as the Bucs marched down the field for the game-winning field goal. It was an uncharacteristic mistake from Hubbard, who just signed a four-year contract extension a few weeks ago. The Albert native is currently sixth in the NFL in rushing yards (919) and entered last week with no fumbles on the year.

Quarterback Bryce Young has looked better in recent weeks and he’s a big reason why the Panthers have gone 2-2 over the last month and kept all four games within a field goal. Since starting the year without a passing TD in his first four games, Young has found the end zone in five straight while going three straight without throwing an interception. He passed for over 250 yards each against the Chiefs and Bucs in last two weeks, so he has the ability to at least keep this game from being a blowout.

Philadelphia Eagles

The story of the season for the Eagles has been Saquon Barkley, who leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,499) and is tied for third in rushing TDs (11). Barkley had another monster performance with 107 rushing yards and a score last week against Baltimore, brining his average rushing yards per game to a ridiculous 124.9. That puts Barkley on pace to break the all-time single-season rushing yards record of 2,105. It’s also worth keeping in mind that of the eight players in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season, seven of them have won MVP.

Philadelphia has also been great on the defensive side of the ball, allowing a league-low 282.8 total yards per game. The Eagles rank within the top-five of almost every major defensive statistic, including pass defence and rush defence. The secondary in particular has been effective, posting an 8.5 per cent sack rate.
