The Panthers will look to put one of the most bizarre weeks in franchise history behind them as they wrap up their regular season Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers. Tampa Bay has already sewn up the NFC South Division title, and with the NFC’s No. 1 seed out of reach, it’s likely that the Bucs will rest players. But all anyone is talking about this week is the team’s decision to cut ties with controversial wide receiver Antonio Brown.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The defending Super Bowl champions are no strangers to a large spread. This marks the 12th time in 17 regular-season contests that the Buccaneers are favoured by a touchdown or more, and they’ve gone an impressive 9-2 SU and 6-5 ATS in the first 11. That includes a dominant 32-6 victory over the host Panthers back on Dec. 26, when Tampa was an 11-point favourite. Carolina has failed to cover three in a row when getting seven or more points.

As expected, more than 80 percent of Sports Interaction participants are siding with the Bucs in this one, while a whopping 93 percent of respondents snagged the O41.5 at -110. A large part of the success of this play will likely hinge on just how long the Bucs play their starters. Tampa Bay is 8-8 O/U for the season, including a 4-3 mark at Raymond James Stadium, while the Panthers come in with a 7-9 O/U mark that includes a 4-4 record on the road.

Carolina Panthers

Since stunning the host Arizona Cardinals 34-10 as a seven-point underdog back on No. 14, the Panthers have struggled mightily to compete with their toughest opponents. In addition to posting three straight non-covers as big ‘dogs, they’ve been outscored 81-30 in those losses to Buffalo, Tampa Bay and New Orleans. It’s the latest in a string of uneven results for the Panthers, who had covered four straight in that scenario prior to their current ATS skid.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs will have to make do without Brown, whose shirtless mid-game departure made plenty of headlines following Tampa’s 28-24 win over the New York Jets last Sunday. The Bucs will look to turn the page this weekend as they ramp up their quest to repeat as Super Bowl champs – and oddsmakers have them as an intriguing value play. Tampa Bay is presently the No. 5 favourite to win the championship at +800.
