The bye week came at a great time for the Carolina Panthers, who could have two Pro Bowl players back this weekend when the team heads north to face the rested New York Jets.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Panthers opened as 4.5-point chalk on the Sports Interaction NFL odds board and were bet up a half point to make them even 5-point favourites. The total for the game is set at 40 points.

Carolina is 3-0 straight up and against the spread in its last three games including a 45-21 trouncing of the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. The Panthers are 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS on the year with an even 5-5 over/under mark.

The Panthers dropped a half game to division leader New Orleans after Drew Brees and Co. pulled out an improbable, overtime win against Washington. Carolina is the second fave to win the NFC South at +225 behind the Saints at -189 on the Sports Interaction NFL futures board.

The Jets saw their seven-game unbeaten ATS run end in Week 10 when they fell 15-10 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gang Green is still 6-3-1 against the spread on the year despite losing outright in four of its last five games. Nearly 95 percent of SIA customers like the Panthers to cover as 5-point favourites against the Jets.

Carolina Panthers

Carolina should have Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen back after he missed the last eight games with a broken bone in his foot. The Panthers are hoping to get Pro Bowl centre Ryan Kalil back too, but his status for Sunday’s game is less certain.

The 45 points the Panthers piled on Miami was more than they had scored in their previous three games combined. They also set a franchise record for total yards gained with 548.

New York Jets

New York still has a real chance of making the playoffs despite being two games under .500 this late in the season. The Jets will likely be underdogs in all of their remaining games with some likely double-digit spreads coming at the New Orleans Saints in Week 14 and at New England in Week 17.
