Packers vs. Panthers Point Spread: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction

A two-game skid has dropped the Packers to 6-8, putting their playoff odds now at 18 percent. Carolina’s still at the very bottom of the NFL standings at 2-12, but are coming off a win in one of the ugliest games this season — a 9-7 victory over Atlanta.

Both clubs are fielding first-year starting quarterbacks and each has yielded some consistent results. Green Bay’s Jordan Love is 10th in the NFL with 3,368 passing yards and has 25 touchdowns to go with 11 interceptions. Carolina’s Bryce Young has been consistently mediocre, averaging 181.5 yards per game to go with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions through 13 games.

Kickoff at Bank of America Stadium begins at 1 p.m. EST with the Packers a five-point road favourite and the total at 36.5 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Winning on the road is something this young Packers squad has not been able to tackle so far this season. Green Bay’s 2-5 in their seven road contests this season with some bad losses at Atlanta, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, and most recently the New York Giants. But all of Green Bay’s five road losses have come via four or fewer points.

All six of Carolina’s home games this season have finished under the total. But head-to-head the trends shift to the over: in seven of these teams’ last nine meetings the over has hit, including four of the last five Packers–Panthers contests played at Carolina. The Packers are also 2-5 against the spread in their last seven outings against Carolina.

Green Bay Packers

It’s been the defence under the microscope in Green Bay’s two most recent losses. Back on December 11th the Packers allowed a game-winning drive to Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants, then this past weekend Baker Mayfield’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers scored 34 points on the road via four touchdown passes. Some key pieces are out for Green Bay, namely cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder) and safety Darnell Savage (safety). But this is now a Packers defence that’s 23rd in yards allowed (349.9 per game) and has come up short in recent crucial moments.

Running back A.J. Dillon (thumb) and receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) also missed last week’s loss. It’s worth monitoring their practice and game statuses as the week goes on; Green Bay now requires everybody they have to pull off some late wins.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers didn’t score a touchdown in last week’s win against Atlanta, which sums up Carolina’s season quite well. Albeit some harsh weather conditions last weekend, the Panthers are still 29th in the NFL this season with 14.7 points per game. Quarterback Bryce Young has thrown two touchdown passes since the beginning of November.

But if there’s any positive takeaways from the Panthers rookie quarterback it’s his performance on their game-winning drive. Young went 5 of 5 for 68 yards on the drive, hitting rookie Jonathan Mingo for a 20-yard gain on a third-and-three situation too. This all set up kicker Eddy Pineiro to come in and drill a chip-shot field goal again, the final play in both of Carolina’s wins in the 2023–24 season.
