Packers vs. Lions Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction
Rodgers said the Packers were “terrible on offence” following the victory over Buffalo. That was despite the fact that they recorded a 423-145 edge in total yards and a 22-11 edge in first downs in a 22-point victory. Still, Green Bay will look to be even more efficient when they visit the Detroit Lions in a key NFC North showdown this Sunday. The Lions have struggled with consistency through the first quarter of the year. Rodgers and the Packers will try to capitalize with a win and put some heat on the Chicago Bears at the top of the division standings.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Green Bay will be a 1.5-point road favorite when it visits Detroit on Sunday. Road favorites enter Week 5 with a 6-11 record overall this season, with the Packers accounting for one of those losses. Green Bay is 2-2 against the spread this season.
The Lions are 1-3 straight up but 3-1 against the spread this season thanks to an upset of the New England Patriots in addition to a couple of close losses. One thing we can expect this week is a substantial amount of scoring. The total has gone over in five of Green Bay’s last six games against the Lions.
Green Bay Packers
Rodgers completed 22-of-40 pass attempts for 298 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the win over the Bills. He also took a pair of sacks. A knee injury has limited Rodgers’ ability to move around the pocket. However, for the most part, he has looked pretty good since suffering the injury. Rodgers wants to see more out of his teammates and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the offence really started to click this week versus Detroit. The Lions rank 24th in the NFL with an average of 28.5 points allowed per game. They also rank 30th in yards per carry allowed, so maybe the Packers get their ground game going and balance out their offence.
Green Bay’s defence can build off a strong performance in which it forced three turnovers and held Buffalo to 145 total yards. The Packers rank 11th in the league with an average of 20.8 points allowed per game. It’s a strong start that should inspire some confidence heading in to Week 5.
Detroit Lions
The Lions are looking to find their way on both sides of the football following a 26-24 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Detroit’s defence was repeatedly gashed by running back Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys offence. The fact that the Lions couldn’t contain him despite the fact that he was clearly the option Dallas was constantly looking to target should be a concern.
Matt Stafford threw for 307 yards and two scores against the Cowboys and appears to be making some progress – especially when it comes to limiting turnovers. However, Detroit still needs more big plays from a unit that has a ton of firepower including Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Kerryon Johnson. The Lions have enough weapons to at least keep up with Green Bay at home. However, the holes on the Detroit defence will ultimately end up costing them as they fall to 1-4 on the season and fail to cover for just the second time this year.
