The Green Bay Packers’s season is on the brink of complete collapse. This is a team that has made the past seven playoffs, which is the longest current streak in the league. If the odds-favored Philadelphia Eagles beat them on Monday Night Football, they can all but guarantee an end to that streak, and the Packers will have to take a long look in the mirror as they reconsider their team’s identity. Sports Interaction’s NFL betting odds lists the Eagles as 4-point favorites.

The Packers continued their slide last week when they once again fell below .500 after a 42-24 spanking by Washington. As it stands they sit two games back of division rivals the Lions and the Vikings and a big seven places behind the final conference wild-card spot.
Aaron Rodgers has held his share of the blame for what’s become of the one time Super Bowl odds frontrunner, but the injuries on this team have taken a toll that cannot be ignored. Last week, they were missing starters like center-guard JC Tretter and guard T.J. Lang and are spotty overall in the defensive backfield. To add injury to injuries, they are now going to be without Eddie Lacy and Sam Shields for the rest of the season. Back-up right guard Don Barclay (shoulder) also went down in Week 11.
The one bright moment last week was the return of linebacker Clay Matthews and tight end Jared Cook, and while Matthews didn’t look quite up to his playing level, Cook made as much of a difference as he could, catching six passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.
As usual, when facing the press, Coach Mike McCarthy seems to have a never-ending well of misplaced confidence to draw from, telling press that they “have the right kind of men. This group of men, we’re going to get to where we want to go. I’m fully confident in that. The process, the approach, the preparation, we’re going to get this the way it needs to be. This locker room is awesome.
“We’ve got to win. We get that. It’s about results. But everything leading up to that, I’m very pleased with. So we’re just going to keep stoking our fire and we’re going to do everything we need to do this week and prepare to go beat Philadelphia.”
At least with the he Eagles, at 5-5, no one expected them to be contenders for the Lombardi Trophy this year, and so they also find themselves in a must win situation on Monday Night. In order to stay in the running for that coveted NFC wild card spot and not miss the playoffs for the third year in a row. Philly is no stranger to injuries this season either, and last week, they lost RBs Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles, which is very bad news for the team’s rushing attack, which was standing at 6th in the league.
Numbers-ise, the Eagles look fine. QB Carson Wentz has 2339 yards with 11 TDs and seven picks, and running back Ryan Mathews leads with 102 attempts for 427 yards and seven scores. The Eagles’ top receiver at the moment is Jordan Matthews, who has 53 catches for 639 yards and three touchdowns.
This team was turning heads closer to the start of the season when Wentz led them to three wins in a row, but have since started the backslide and have gone 2-5 recently including a hard loss to the Seahawks last Sunday. This team is in last place in the NFC East, but they are only 1.5 games behind Washington for the second NFC Wild Card spot.
