Packers vs. Commanders Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction

That statement might sound hyperbolic given Washington won its last contest and Green Bay are at least .500, but both teams have lots of catching up to do in their respective divisions.

The experts have Matt Lafleur’s Packers pinned as 5.5-point favourites on the NFL odds. The total points scored is expected to be 41.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Games featuring the Packers and Commanders are typically not close. Last year’s affair ended 24-10, which isn’t disastrous at face value, but closer inspection revealed Green Bay basically took care of business against a predominantly ineffectual opponent. The Packers are 3-2 in the past 5 meetings.

The Wisconsin-based team hasn’t fared well ATS so far in 2022, with only a 2-4 record to show for it. The last 3 weeks have been frustrating for people putting faith in them. A loss to the Giants (they were favoured), a loss to the Jets (they were favoured), and a 3-point overtime win against the Patriots quarterbacked by a 3rd stringer (they were favoured by 9.5).

Washington is also 2-4 ATS in 2022. It’s a sneaky 2-4, however. Yes, the covers have been when they’ve won games and the failures have been when they’ve lost games, but they’ve also lost twice when they were favoured.

Green Bay Packers

The Lambeau faithful is asking itself when does the 2022 campaign kick into high gear. It’s already Week 7, their team is 3-3 and trails division rival Minnesota by two games. In years past, Aaron Rodgers could visit a radio station and ask the fans coolly to “relax,” yet this feels different.

In no way was this better exemplified than in last week’s home defeat to the Jets. It wasn’t a close contest that came down to the wire. That thing felt over midway through the fourth quarter. Reminders that Rodgers is missing star receiver Devante Adams are reflected some of the club’s offensive stats. Green Bay 15th in passing yards and 23rd in points scored. They’re 23rd and they have Aaron Rodgers! The Packers are also 19th in third down efficiency, which is killing them. Last week’s 4-for 16-effort was dreadful. A game against the Commanders is an opportunity to use what has been a solid ground attack.

Washington Commanders

Are there such things as wins that feel as if they barely count? One could ask Commanders fans following Week 6’s Thursday night victory in Chicago. Bears QB Justin Fields had put up pitiful passing figures through the first five weeks but much-maligned Carson Wentz came to town and made Fields look passable.

A 12-for-22, 99-yard performance is nothing to write home about, but Washington still pulled out a win. The season averages look decent, however, lest we forget that the Commanders pulled out a high-scoring win in Week 1 and suffered a high-scoring defeat in Week 2. It’s been quite moribund since then. Wentz, in his defence, has been getting sacked a bunch (an outrageous 31 times, tied for league worst). Falling behind so much has also meant that RB Antonio Gibson hasn’t really found a gear so far in 2022, since playing catchup entails throwing more than running.
