Packers vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction
Green Bay is a 3-point favourite on the NFL odds with a total of 36.0 points.
Pre-Season Week 3 Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Packers vs. Chiefs could very easily be a preview of Super Bowl 57 as Kansas City is a +436 second-favourite to win the AFC title (the team has been to the conference title game four straight seasons) and Green Bay is a +363 second-favourite in the NFC.
The teams don’t play in the 2022 regular season. They did last year, but NFL fans were denied an Aaron Rodgers vs. Patrick Mahomes matchup as Rodgers missed the Week 9 game in Kansas City after testing positive for COVID. Predictably, the Packers struggled offensively behind backup Jordan Love (190 yards, TD, INT) and lost 13-7. Mahomes threw for 166 yards and a TD.
Overall, this will be the 20th preseason game between the Packers and Chiefs with the series tied at 9-9-1. It’s the 10th time the Packers and Chiefs have been scheduled to play one another in the final game of the preseason since 2010, with each team winning four of the previous eight – eight because Green Bay was scheduled to close out the 2020 preseason in Kansas City, but the entire exhibition schedule was canceled due to COVID-19.
Green Bay Packers
I’d like to tell you if Aaron Rodgers – who hasn’t played yet this preseason – and other Green Bay starters will take the field even briefly Thursday, but as of this writing Coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t decided. That it’s on the road makes it a bit less likely, and Rodgers didn’t play in the 2021 preseason at all, either. The one reason he may play is there have been some issues in camp with his young receivers dropping passes. Rookie fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs does have a TD catch in both exhibition games. “I feel like the offense — especially in the last week or so — has been clicking closer to where I think we should be trending,” Rodgers said Monday. On Sunday, the team activated Pro Bowl left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee surgery) from the active/PUP list, but he’s not playing Thursday and may not be ready for Week 1. The Packers are 3-6 under LaFleur in preseason games.
Kansas City Chiefs
Coach Andy Reid hasn’t been shy about playing his starters in a preseason finale and with the Chiefs not opening the season until Sept. 11, we are likely to see Patrick Mahomes for a bit. He’s breaking in some new receivers as well. One returning wideout poised for a bigger workload, Mecole Hardman (groin), returned to practice Monday. Hardman was carted from practice last Wednesday and missed the second preseason game. The starting defense has allowed no points this preseason and the starting offence has three consecutive touchdown drives. Reid-coached teams are 43-46 in the preseason all-time.
