NFL Opening Sunday Game Notes

NFL Sunday is upon us and from a bettor’s perspective, there’s action to be had. With big upsets this week in the form of Pittsburgh and USC not covering and Notre Dame starting the season with a shocking if not exciting fourth quarter loss to Michigan, gamblers are looking for value in this Sunday’s games, kicking off in less than an hour.

The Dallas Cowboys are the favorite at -5.5 against the Tampa Bay Bucs, but the question looms as to which Tony Romo actually shows. Will the offseason personal and media distractions (girlfriends, practice facility collapses and T.O. managing to steal all the media attention from as far away as the great white north) lead to a characteristic display of a lack of focus from Dallas? Possibly.

The Baltimore Ravens are a prohibitive favorite over the Kansas City Chiefs at -13.5. Baltimore has sneakily become a team that looks to be a beast this season and may have a surprising passing game that may have slipped under the radar in preseason and offseason. This game against a seemingly harmless opponent could reveal a great deal of information about whether Baltimore will be as dominant as some think this season.

The Atlanta Falcons are set at -4.5 over the Miami Dolphins, and this is a game to watch. Miami was the NFL’s surprise team last season, and though they looked shaky in the preseason, they battled weather conditions in all of their games. This is another game to watch, as Miami may be better than their preseason performance indicates.

And, of course, the game that everybody is watching … Minnesota Vikings at the Cleveland Browns. Minnesota is only favored at -5.5, and at this moment over 80% of the public bettors at Sports Interaction are on Minnesota. Will Brett’s debut in purple be an easy cover? Popular opinion says it may be.
