NFL Fantasy Week 2 Start or Sit

Al Dannity | Updated Sep 14, 2012

The first game is in the books but you can still save your match-up this weekend in NFL Fantasy Football. Al Dannity breaks down his start-ems and sit-ems for Week 2.

Start: Joe Flacco (Ravens) at Eagles. Flacco took to the no-huddle like a duck to water and provides tremendous fantasy value. There will be picks but he should compensate with big numbers all year long. Philly’s defence did little to scare fans last week and could be in for a long day.

Sit: Matt Stafford (Lions) at 49ers. I believe Stafford can have another 5,000 yard season but he won’t have a good day this weekend. The 49ers defence is one of the best in the business while the Lions are still finding their way on offence early this season. Megatron will still be a no-brainer to start but Stafford won’t get enough out of his other options to merit a start.

Start: Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace (Steelers) vs. Jets. Yes there is the fear of Revis Island but he can only cover one of Pittsburgh’s elite receivers at a time. The other option is Antonio Cromartie, an athletically gifted corner who gives up a ton of yards. Big Ben may not be able to throw a clean game but Brown and Wallace should both be good for big yardage on Sunday.

Sit: 49ers receivers vs. Lions. Alex Smith has more options this year and while that’s great for San Francisco, it’s frustrating for fantasy owners. Vernon Davis remains a stud at tight end but last week’s game at Green Bay pointed to a balanced air attack out wide. Until one of the 49ers’ wide outs proves to be the go-to guy, be wary of starting any of them.

Start: Owen Daniels (Texans) at Jaguars. Andre Johnson is going to get most of the looks, Arian Foster will do plenty on the ground, but the yardage cake this weekend should be big enough for Daniels to feast on the Jags’ defence. I expect Houston to get up big early, which means Jacksonville will have to pass more. That means the clock will stop more and there will be more plays. While Daniels isn’t an elite option at TE, he’s good for a few big games a year. This should be one of them.

Sit: Maurice Jones Drew (Jaguars) vs. Texans. This is going to anger the fantasy gods. I love MJD and the man deserves to get paid but he also needs carries. I just don’t see him getting the carries he needs to be the man this weekend. Jacksonville will likely be in trouble early, meaning fewer touches for their star running back. It’s a recipe for fantasy disaster. Sit him.
