The Saints did some housecleaning during their bye week and appear to have their running back depth chart straighten out for this weekend’s contest against the visiting Detroit Lions.
Detroit Lions vs. New Orleans Saints
Point Spread: Saints -5 Date: Oct. 15, 1:00 PM ET Location: Mercedes-Benz Superdome – New Orleans, Louisiana
Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The total for this game opened at 46 with the Saints installed as 5-point home chalk on the Sports Interaction NFL odds board. The Lions are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall including last week’s 27-24 loss to the visiting Carolina Panthers. Total bettors should take notice when Detroit takes the road. The under is 22-7 in the Lions’ last 29 away games.
New Orleans hosted the Lions in Week 13 last season and lost outright 28-13 as a 6.5-point favorite. Detroit picked off Saints quarterback Drew Brees three times and didn’t allow a single passing score in the game. Almost 90 percent of Sports Interaction bettors like the Lions to cover as five-point pups at New Orleans.
The health of starting quarterback Matt Stafford is the big question this week for the Lions. Stafford injured his hamstring and ankle last weekend against the Panthers and was seen limping in the locker room according to reporters on the scene.
Stafford said on Monday he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to play against the Saints this weekend although on Wednesday he told reporters he was feeling “OK”. The Lions will turn to second-year pro and sixth-round pick in the 2016 draft Jake Rudock if Stafford can’t play. Rudock has yet to take a snap in an NFL regular season game.
New Orleans Saints
The Adrian Peterson experiment is over in the Big Easy. The future Hall of Fame running back didn’t mesh as well as Saints fans hoped when he was signed as a free agent in the offseason. New Orleans traded him to the Cardinals which means Mark Ingram should be the unquestioned No. 1 back on the team depth chart.
