2027 Vezina Trophy Betting Odds, Prediction: Connor Hellebuyck Favoured Amid Trade Request
Goaltending is the one position in hockey where you generally only notice if things go bad.
With that in mind, we’re giving some love to the tendies today as we look at this year’s Vezina Trophy odds.
The list of favourites includes multiple former Vezina winners in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck and Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy, in addition to Logan Thompson of the Capitals.
Let’s dive right in with our Vezina Trophy favourites, prediction and betting trends.

Vezina Trophy Favourites
The opening odds for this year’s Vezina Trophy remain fairly tight after the first couple of days of the season. The top-five favourites all boast odds shorter than +1000, led by Hellebuyck (+500), Thompson (+600) and Vasilevskiy (+850).
While the talent of Hellebuyck makes him a clear favourite, I’m a little surprised he remains at the top of this list considering he isn’t with the Jets as he seeks a trade. I’m staying away from the three-time Vezina winner because goalies generally struggle to get back to game speed when they miss training camp and we still don’t know when or where we’ll see Hellebuyck play this season.
Thompson has emerged as the Capitals undisputed No. 1 option in net and there’s a good chance he will be Team Canada’s starter at the next Olympics. The 29-year-old has lowered his goals-against average every season since he became a regular NHLer and he should continue to put up strong numbers for a Washington team many people have pegged to make a long playoff run this spring.
Vasilevskiy is the reigning Vezina winner and he likely deserves more than the two Vezina’s he has won to this point in his career. He led the leagues with 39 wins last season, but I worry about how many starts he gets and whether that begins to take a toll on the 32-year-old’s body.
Here’s the top-10 favourites to win the Vezina Trophy this season:
- Connor Hellebuyck (+500)
- Logan Thompson (+600)
- Andrei Vasilevskiy (+850)
- Ilya Sorokin (+850)
- Igor Shesterkin (+900)
- Jeremy Swayman (+1400)
- Jacob Markstrom (+2000)
- Jake Oettinger (+2000)
- Jesper Wallstedt (+2200)
- Jet Greaves (+2500)
Vezina Trophy Prediction
The three Vezina favourites all come with a some risk, so I’ll go just outside of them and take Ilya Sorokin.
The New York Islanders’ goaltender was a Vezina finalist last season after leading the league with seven shutouts, while posting a 29-24-2 record with a .906 save percentage and 2.68 GAA. He also led the NHL with 18 road wins.
A huge part of why I like Sorokin is his big-game performances. He went 15-5-0 last season when facing 30 or more shots, including a franchise-record 13-0-0 in those situations to start the season.
The Islanders also look poised to return to the playoffs for the first time in three years. If Sorokin is a major part of that return to the postseason, he should have a great case to take home his first career Vezina Trophy.
Vezina Trophy Betting Trends
- Even split: The Eastern Conference and Western Conference have split the last 10 Vezina’s with five wins apiece.
- No double trouble: No one has won the Vezina Trophy and Stanley Cup in the same season since Tim Thomas with Boston in 2011.
- Habs dominace: Boasting the likes Jacques Plante, Patrick Roy and Carey Price as alumni, it’s no surprise that Montreal has the most Vezina winners of any NHL franchise with 29.
