Jared Goff and the 0-6 Detroit Lions are heading out to Los Angeles where they will face Matthew Stafford and his 5-1 Rams. The two quarterbacks were traded for one another back in February, and it’s safe to say the change of scenery has benefited Stafford more to this point.

After last week’s 34-11 loss versus Cincinnati, Lions head coach Dan Campbell called out Goff as someone who needs to step up. Meanwhile Stafford was throwing for 251 yards and four touchdown passes in a win against the Giants.

Either way both leaders will be looking to stick it to their old teams. Kickoff at SoFi Stadium goes at 4:05 p.m. EST with the Rams as 15-point home favourites to win on the NFL odds and the over-under at 50.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Lions enter Sunday on a 10-game losing streak while L.A.’s won 10 of their last 13. These teams are heading in opposite directions and it starts on offence. The Rams are sixth in the NFL with 29.9 points per game, Detroit 28th with 18.2. Los Angeles is second in the NFL with 6.5 yards per play, Detroit 29th with 4.9.

Stafford’s also averaging 306 passing yards a game and is tied for third in the NFL with 16 touchdowns. Goff on the other hand is averaging 250 a game and has seven passing touchdowns in six starts.

Although Detroit’s without a win, they’ve been sticking in games and have a 3-3 record against the spread. The Rams are 4-2 against the spread.

Detroit Lions

Detroit entered last week’s contest with the Bengals having three straight one-possession losses. It seemed like a good spot for the Lions to grab their first win but instead the Bengals dominated. The Lions had 228 yards of offence and held the ball for just over 24 minutes. Goff had 202 yards through the air and D’Andre Swift led the team with 24 rushing yards.

Swift (groin) was limited in practice Wednesday, as was edge rusher Trey Flowers and former Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers (shoulder). If Detroit has any shot Sunday, they’ll need all three to suit up.

Los Angeles Rams

Cooper Kupp’s dominant 2021 campaign continued last week with a nine-catch, 130-yard game that also saw Kupp reach pay dirt twice. Kupp’s now atop NFL receivers with seven touchdowns and is second in yards with 653. Los Angeles has a top-five passing offence, and Kupp and Stafford are major reasons why.

The Rams’ defence still leaves a little to be desired. From coordinator Brandon Staley to defensive backs John Johnson and Troy Hill, no other defensive unit lost as much as L.A. last off-season. But with Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald as the stars, this group shouldn’t be 21st in yards against.
