Lions vs. Panthers Week 4 Odds, Prediction and Picks: Detroit Favoured on Sunday Night Football
Sunday Night Football heads to Charlotte this week, and the Detroit Lions are bringing one of the league’s most explosive offences with them. Detroit has scored exactly 31 points in all three games, and Jahmyr Gibbs already has six total touchdowns. The problem is the other side of the ball. The Lions blew a 21-0 lead before beating New Orleans in overtime, gave up 41 points in Buffalo, and let the Jets erase a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit before Gibbs’ late touchdown saved them.
The Carolina Panthers, who hosted a playoff game last January, have been impossible to figure out. They gave up 59 points and 291 rushing yards to Chicago in the opener, forced five turnovers in a 34-3 rout of Atlanta, then lost 21-18 in Cleveland when the Browns scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:55 left. At 1-2, Carolina could use a statement win in prime time.

NFL Betting Odds, Point Spread, Trends
Detroit opened as a 3.5-point road favourite, and the spread hasn’t moved. The Lions are -3.5 (-112) with a -180 money line price, while Carolina sits at +150 as the home underdog. The total has dipped from 51.5 to 50.5, with the Over priced at -112 and the Under at -108.
Backing Detroit hasn’t paid lately. The Lions are 0-2-1 ATS this season and 2-7-1 ATS over their last 10 games, failing to cover as 7-point favourites against New Orleans and pushing against the Jets. Totals bettors have done much better, as the Over is 3-0 in Lions games. Carolina is 1-2 ATS this season and 5-5 ATS over its last 10 games. The Panthers also know how to hang around as underdogs, covering as 9.5-point home dogs in last January’s 34-31 playoff loss to the Rams.
NFL Player Odds and Props
Carolina Panthers
Chuba Hubbard found the end zone in each of Carolina’s first two games and has 184 rushing yards on 41 carries (4.5 yards per carry). His rushing total sits at 66.5, with anytime TD odds of -135. That number looks reachable against a Lions defence that gave up 203 rushing yards in Buffalo.
Detroit Lions
Jahmyr Gibbs has been the best player on the field in most of Detroit’s games, with 307 rushing yards, 18 catches for 156 yards, and six total touchdowns. His rushing total sits at 94.5, and Carolina has allowed 580 rushing yards through three games, the most in the NFL.
Detroit Lions
Bryce Young has put up solid numbers, throwing for 939 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions, but he’s been under siege. Cleveland held Carolina to three first-half points and 113 net yards, and Young’s final pass was picked off by Ronnie Hickman with under 30 seconds left.
The injury report doesn’t help. WRs Jalen Coker (quad) and Xavier Legette (knee), OL Damien Lewis (elbow) and RT Monroe Freeling (concussion) all sat out Wednesday, and CB Jaycee Horn was placed on injured reserve.
Carolina Panthers
Dan Campbell’s offence is humming. Jared Goff has thrown for 802 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception, and Gibbs moved into second place on the franchise’s all-time rushing touchdown list behind Barry Sanders last week. The Lions also had five sacks against the Jets, including Chuck Clark’s game-sealing strip-sack.
The defence is the concern. Detroit has allowed 31.7 points per game, and the secondary is thin with safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph still on the PUP list and CB D.J. Reed (rib) limited on Wednesday. Geno Smith completed 31 of 37 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns against this group last week.
