Winners of five straight, capped by last weekend’s 52-14 demolition of the Tennessee Titans, the high-powered Lions have now averaged a league-leading 33.4 points per game and arrive in Green Bay sporting a perfect 3-0 record on the road. The Packers extended their current win streak to four games with last weekend’s narrow 31-29 victory in Jacksonville and now trail Detroit by just a half-game in the NFC North standings, but have lost four of five home dates with divisional opponents including two straight defeats at the hands of the arch rival Lions.

The red-hot Lions have emerged as 3.5-point road favourites on the NFL Week 9 odds. The Packers trail as +145 home underdogs on the NFL moneyline and the total is listed at 48.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Lions have held a clear edge in recent dates with the Packers, winning and covering the spread in four of five meetings and have regularly paid out on the NFL odds while going 11-3 against the spread in 14 clashes including a 5-2 ATS mark at Lambeau Field. Detroit has also been a reliable bet this season, improving to 6-1 ATS while claiming victory by double-digit margins in three of their past four outings. With the Lions regularly running up the score, the OVER has paid out in each of their past four games. Conversely, the Packers have built their current 4-0 run on much narrower victories, with their two most recent wins coming by a combined margin of just five points and have covered just once in their past three home dates.

Detroit Lions

The Lions offence was overwhelming dominant in last weekend’s win over the Titans and their frightful efficiency should be enough to spark concern among loyal packers betting fans. After overcoming a slow start, the Lions scored on four straight drives in the halftime to more than settle matters by halftime. Quarterback Jared Goff once again led the charge with three scoring tosses on 12-for-15 passing for 85 yards and has now piled up 12 touchdown passes over the past five games. Goff was forced to miss Wednesday practice with an ankle injury that is not expect to keep him out of Sunday’s contest. But even if Goff were sidelined, this lineup currently features plenty of other offensive weapons they can rely on.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs maintained his recent torrid pace while running for 127 yards and one score and has now picked up 293 total yards and three scoring runs over the past two weeks. David Montgomery has also run for seven TDs in seven games and contributed a three-yard scoring pass in last week’s win.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers have needed field goals with no time remaining to eke out wins in each of the past two weeks and must find ways to generate more scoring, particularly after halftime, if they are to keep pace with the Lions in Sunday’s matchup. The Packers have scored just one total fourth-quarter touchdown during their 4-0 run and have been forced to rally after squandering early leads in each of the past three games. Deepening those concerns is the uncertain status of Jordan Love for Sunday’s matchup. The Packers pivot suffered a groin injury that knocked him out of Sunday’s win over the Jaguars and kept him out of Wednesday practice. But when asked by reporters about the chances of suiting up on Sunday, Love cryptically responded that it was “realistic”.

If Love is unable to go, look for Malik Willis to lead the offence. Willis went 4-for-5 for 56 yards and one score in last weekend’s relief duty and led the Pack to a pair of early-season victories while Love was injured. However, it was a stout defence that limited opponents to just 12 points per game that was the biggest star in those wins.
