The Lions have won two of three games following an 0-10-1 start to the 2021 campaign, and should draw plenty of betting interest against a Falcons side that has just one win in six games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season. Add in the fact that Detroit has been a terrific cover option, and this one should be interesting.

Atlanta is a 5.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 43.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Atlanta is a comfortable favourite Sunday, but bettors aren’t buying. Nearly two-thirds of Sports Interaction participants are siding with the Lions and the points, showing confidence in the Lions’ 9-5 ATS record against a Falcons team with just one cover in six home games. The Lions are on a 5-1 ATS heater over their previous six games overall, while the Falcons are a dismal 1-6 ATS in their past seven against teams from the NFC North.

The total for this Week 16 matchup is set at 43, with the Over and Under carrying identical -110 odds. And as is a common theme among public bettors, three quarters of Sports Interaction respondents are on the O43 play. Both teams have been superior Under plays this season, with the Falcons at 6-8 O/U and the Lions at 5-9. They’ve also converted the Under in seven of their past 10 head-to-head meetings, though those games averaged better than 44 points.

Detroit Lions

The Lions have spent the season looking for potential replacements for departed receivers Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones Jr. And while the current crop of pass-catchers might not reach those lofty heights, at least one has shown superstar potential of late. Rookie wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown erupted for 90 yards and a TD on eight catches in last week’s upset win over Arizona, and has 26 grabs for 249 yards and two TDs in his last three games.

Atlanta Falcons

Bettors have been burned all season on Kyle Pitts touchdown props – but there’s a compelling reason to go back to the proverbial well. Pitts has seen 12 red-zone targets as a rookie (ranking in the top 10 among tight ends), and his 847 receiving yards are the most by any player in the NFL with fewer than four touchdowns. It’s one of the reasons why Pitts is the first rookie tight end in nearly 20 years to be named to the Pro Bowl.
