Lions vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Week 10 Odds, Prediction

The Chargers return home riding a two-game win streak after rolling to a dominating 27-6 victory over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football, and now sit just one game out of the AFC playoff picture. The Lions were idle last week, and return to action perched atop the NFC North standings with a 6-2 record. Overall, the Lions have won five of six, capped by a 26-14 home victory over Las Vegas two weeks ago, but were outclassed in a 38-6 loss to Baltimore in their most recent road contest.

The Lions arrive in LA perched as 3-point road favourites on the NFL Week 10 odds. The Chargers trail as +135 underdogs on the NFL moneyline, and the total is listed at 48.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Chargers have rediscovered their scoring mojo during their current two-game win streak, averaging 28.5 points per game after scoring just 17 points in preceding losses to Kansas City and Dallas. While the scoring surge is welcome, the Chargers have work to do to prove they can compete with top-flight opponents. Los Angeles has emerged victorious against non-playoff opponents like the Bears, Jets, and Las Vegas, but were outclassed in their losses to the Cowboys and Miami at home, and the Chiefs on the road. Overall, LA has failed to record consecutive wins on home turf this season. However, the UNDER consistently paid out in each of their past six games.

The Lions atoned for their recent loss to the Ravens with a dominant performance in their Week 8 win over the Raiders, limiting Vegas to just 157 total yards, and shutting out their opponents in the first quarter for the fifth time this season. Indeed, apart from their brutal loss in Baltimore, this team has been a defensive stalwart. The Lions limited opponents to an average of just 14 points during the four-game surge that ended with their defeat in Baltimore, and have seen each of their past five victories come by double-digit margins.

Detroit Lions

The Lions ground game is set to get a big lift from the return of David Montgomery. The Lions rusher was a full participant at practice on Wednesday after missing the past two games with a rib injury. Montgomery ran for six scores and for over 100 yards twice in four full game appearances before getting injured. The big question is whether Montgomery will see a reduced workload in his return considering the performance of rookie Jahmyr Gibbs in his absence. Gibbs ran for 152 yards against the Raiders and has scored in each of the past two games. While the Lions enjoy a short injury report, it does include their latest addition Donovan Peoples-Jones. Acquired in a trade deadline deal with Cleveland, Peoples-Jones adds critical depth to the receiving corps. However, a rib injury has limited him at practice and could delay his Lions debut.

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert saw his streak of 10 consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass snapped in Monday’s win in New York. In fact, Herbert connected on a season-low 53.3% of pass attempts for just 136 yards in the win. However, Herbert’s numbers have more to do with the Jets’ stingy pass defence than the finger injury that plagued him throughout the first half of the season. Indeed, Herbert looked in fit form while tossing for 298 yards and three scores two weeks ago versus Chicago, but could benefit from a stouter offensive line, which has allowed him to be sacked five times in two of the past three games. With Herbert hemmed in, Austin Ekeler emerged as the offensive spark in New York, running for two scores. Ekeler also added 26 receiving yards in the win, and offers some value as a -115 bet to top 91.5 combined rushing and receiving yards.
