Lions vs. Cardinals Point Spread: NFL Week 3 Odds, Prediction

Through the first two games of this season, 2019 first overall draft pick Kyler Murray has thrown for 516 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns for the 2-0 Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals play host to the 0-2 Lions in Week 3, with Arizona sitting as six-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 54.5.  These teams most recently played in Week 1 last year, resulting in a bizarre 27-27 tie in Kyler Murray’s first NFL game.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

When these teams met during Week 1 in Kyler Murray’s NFL debut last year, the young QB struggled to get the offense going before exploding in the fourth quarter to come back from an 18-point deficit.  Murray finished with 308 passing yards with two TD’s and one interception in the tie game.

These teams can put points on the board, as the over is 10-4 in their last 14 meetings.  The Lions are 0-6 ATS in their last six road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five games after rushing for less than 90 yards in the previous game.  The Cardinals are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 5-0 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record.

Detroit Lions

The Lions defense has been exploited through losses to the Bears in Week 1 and Packers in Week 2.  Detroit blew a fourth quarter lead to lose 27-23 to the Bears and they are now coming off a 42-31 loss to the Packers after blowing a ten point lead in that game.  Matt Stafford has been solid with 541 passing yards and three TDs through two games and veteran running back Adrian Peterson has been a nice addition with 134 rushing yards, but the Lions defense needs to step up if they want their first win of the season.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals’ season has started exactly the way they wanted, as they are 2-0 for the first time since 2015.  Kyler Murray has looked like a star with 516 passing yards and two TDs, while picking up 158 rushing yards and three rushing TDs through the first two games.  The defense has stepped up big, holding the 49ers to 20 points in Week 1 and Washington to 15 points last week.  In a tough NFC West division that includes the Rams, 49ers and Seahawks, the Cardinals can’t afford to lose Sunday and we should see them play that way.
