A spectacular collapse has the Detroit Lions challenging for the league’s worst record with two games remaining – but they might still opt to bring their injured star rusher back into the fold as they prepare to face host Denver on Sunday. There’s a chance that second-year running back Kerryon Johnson will return from injury prior to the end of the season, even with the Lions mired in an ugly seven-game losing skid.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Broncos are comfortable home favourites here, which is no surprise given that the Lions have looked positively dreadful and will be leaving the comfy confines of Ford Field for the chilly expanse of Empower Field at Mile High. Detroit has covered just once in its previous nine games overall and is 1-6 ATS in its past seven as an underdog. Denver, on the other hand, is 5-2 ATS in its last seven and 4-1 in its previous five games against teams below .500.

You won’t find many NFL totals this low, even in the depths of the season. And it still might be too good to resist for Under bettors given how both teams have fared of late. The Lions have converted the Under in four of their previous five games away from Ford Field, and are 5-2 to the Under in their last seven as a road underdog. Meanwhile, the Under is 10-3 in the last 13 games at Mile High and 20-8-1 in the Broncos’ previous 29 games overall.

Detroit Lions

While it’s possible that Johnson – who still leads the team in rushing (308 yards) despite having not played since Week 7 – could return for the final two games of the regular season. His return would undoubtedly give the Detroit running game a much-needed shot in the arm; the Lions rank 21st in the league in rush yards per game (98.7) while averaging just 3.8 yards per attempt. They also have a paltry six rushing TDs in 2019, second-fewest in the NFL.

Denver Broncos

Amid the frigid 0-4 start and more quarterback controversy, at least one Denver player is enjoying a sensational season. Second-year sensation Courtland Sutton has emerged as the team’s no-doubt No. 1 receiving option and has responded with 63 receptions for 1,019 yards and six touchdowns through his first 14 games. And Sutton has been particularly dangerous at home, with five of his six scores coming in Denver.
