Jets vs. Ravens Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 15 Odds
The Thursday schedule of the NFL’s 2019 season concludes in Week 15 with one of the apparent mismatches on the night all year as the New York Jets visit the red-hot Baltimore Ravens.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
In the 2018 NFL Draft, the New York Jets had traded up to No. 3 overall to select their quarterback of the future. Baker Mayfield was off the board, somewhat surprisingly going to the Cleveland Browns at No. 1. The Jets, then, essentially had a choice between Southern Cal’s Sam Darnold, Wyoming’s Josh Allen and UCLA’s Josh Rosen. They took Darnold.
Taking Louisville’s Lamar Jackson that high was never even a consideration as many league scouts didn’t believe Jackson was a first-round talent despite a spectacular NCAA career that included a Heisman Trophy. Do a redraft today, and Jackson goes No. 1 overall as he’s on track to win the MVP Award this season.
Darnold has been wildly inconsistent and there are still questions whether he is a franchise quarterback. New York will have another fairly high pick in the 2020 draft but will not take a quarterback there because Darnold has shown enough promise at times. The Baltimore Ravens traded back into the 2018 first round to take Jackson with the 32nd and final pick of that round, and that has turned out to be a genius move.
The Ravens are 8-2 all-time vs. the Jets. New York won the first meeting in 1997 and the most recent one 24-16 in New Jersey in 2016 (thus, this will be first Darnold vs. Jackson matchup). Neither team finished with a winning record that year.
The favorite is 6-2 ATS in the past eight meetings. The under is 3-1-2 in the previous six.
New York Jets
New York won for the fourth time in five games Sunday, 22-21 over Miami. Sam Ficken hit a 44-yard field goal as time expired. It was the longest walk-off winning field goal in team history. The Jets were the beneficiaries of a late video review call for pass interference on Miami. Darnold injured his hand early in the fourth quarter but stayed in the game and was 20-for-36 for 270 yards and two scores with a pick. Robby Anderson had his second straight 100-yard receiving game with 116 and a touchdown. No. 1 Jets running back Le’Veon Bell didn’t play due to illness. The team’s top defender, safety Jamal Adams, was out with a foot injury. The Jets are 3-7-1 ATS in their past 11 following a win.
Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore won its franchise-record ninth game in a row Sunday and clinched a playoff spot with a 24-17 victory in Buffalo; the Ravens could wrap up the AFC North this week and they control their own destiny to be the AFC’s top seed. Jackson threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 40 yards. He has 1,017 rushing yards, 22 shy of Michael Vick’s single-season record for a quarterback. Top tight end Mark Andrews left with a knee injury and it’s not yet clear if he will miss time but sounds like he avoided anything serious. The Ravens are 1-7 ATS in their past eight as home favourites.
