The Jets’ early-season woes continued with last weekend’s lopsided 37-15 loss in Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football that drops their record to 2-5 and leaves them in sole possession of third place in the AFC East. The Patriots continued their downward spiral last weekend with a 32-16 loss to Jacksonville in London and have now been defeated by double-digit margins four times during their current six-game losing streak.

The Jets arrive in New England perched as 7-point road favourites on the NFL Week 8 odds. The Patriots trail as distant +275 underdogs on the NFL moneyline and the total is pegged at just 41.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s matchup marks the second and final meeting of the season between these struggling AFC East rivals. The Jets rolled to an easy 24-3 victory when they hosted New England in Week 3 and now enjoy their first two-game win streak against the Patriots since 2009.

Indeed, prior to their current 2-0 head-to-head run, the Jets dropped 15 straight to the Pats and haven’t swept a season series against New England since 2000. New York has simply dominated in their two recent head-to-head wins, limiting the Patriots to six total points in those contests and have allowed New England to score just one offensive touchdown over their past four dates.

That stinginess does not extend to their current slide. New York has given up 27.7 points per game over their past three outings and have failed to cover while averaging just 15.3 points per game during their 0-4 run.

Things have gone even worse for the Patriots, who have scored just 10.5 points per game while losing six straight and have scored 10 or fewer points six times while losing 13 of 15 at home.

New York Jets

The Jets’ attack has consistently fallen flat after halftime during their current four-game slide, scoring just one total touchdown and 16 total points over that span. That deficiency was massively exploited last Sunday by the Steelers, who quickly buried the Jets with 24 second-half points in 37-15 win.

With Aaron Rodgers hobbled by injury, overcoming this swoon presents a real challenge. Rodgers has been limited at practice this week with hamstring and knee injuries, and has struggled with accuracy while tossing six picks against five TDs over his past three outings.

New England Patriots

While the Patriots find themselves in a free-fall that appears will end no time soon, the NFL debut of prized rookie quarterback Drake Maye has given New England fans something to cheer about. Maye completed 70.3 per cent of his passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s loss and has now found the end zone five times in two games since taking over the starter’s reins from veteran Jacoby Brissett.

Rusher Rhamondre Stevenson has been a particularly steady producer on home turf, where he has compiled 170 yards and two scoring runs in two appearances but mustered just 23 rushing yards in the team’s loss to New York last month.
