Jets vs. Packers Point Spread: NFL Preseason Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The Green Bay Packers may be starting their third-string quarterback when they host the New York Jets in Week 2 of the NFL pre-season on Saturday. The Jets are short favourites on the NFL odds with a tiny total of 34 points.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This is Green Bay’s last home game until Monday night in Week 2 against Detroit, which could be the final home opener as a Packer for Aaron Rodgers. That’s a story for another day. The Jets have yet to play a true home game but will close the pre-season with one Week 3 vs. Philadelphia.
These teams haven’t met in the pre-season since 2000. Their most recent regular-season matchup was late in the 2018 season when Green Bay won 44-38 in New Jersey. The clubs are having joint practices this week.
Green Bay has posted a .500 or better record in the preseason each of the last six pre-seasons (2014-19) but that streak will end with a loss here. The Packers are 2-3 all-time in exhibition games under Coach Matt LaFleur, while the Jets are 1-0 under first-year coach Robert Saleh.
New York Jets
Robert Saleh’s NFL head-coaching debut was a success as the Jets beat the Giants 12-7 in Week 1. The Jets’ new offensive coordinator, Mike LaFleur, is Packers head coach Matt LaFleur’s younger brother. Rookie No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson had a solid debut in completing 6-for-9 for 63 yards in two series, leading the Jets to three points. Wilson should start again and play perhaps a bit more, but coaches need to see plenty of Mike White and James Morgan as they battle for the backup QB role, with White looking better vs. Houston. Top defensive lineman Quinnen Williams sat out the entire off-season and the first three weeks of training camp, returning to the field on Monday. He won’t play here.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay’s nine-game home pre-season winning streak was snapped last Saturday in a 26-7 defeat by the Houston Texans. Packers superstar QB Aaron Rodgers didn’t play and is not expected to at all in the pre-season. At this point in his career, the three-time MVP has no reason to suit up. Backup Jordan Love, the potential Rodgers replacement as soon as next year, was 12-for-17 for 122 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut. However, he dinged up his shoulder and may not play this week. The Packers would like Love to get as many game snaps as possible but won’t risk injury. The only other QB on the roster is Kurt Benkert (he played the entire second half vs. Houston) so expect the team to sign one QB this week. It worked out Quinten Dormady on Monday and was to work out a few more Tuesday.
