Jets vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction

The Giants currently hold an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series, but it’s the Jets who have won the last two outings and come into this weekend with momentum on their side.

The 2-5 Giants finally broke an ugly four-game skid but only managed to score 14 points in the winning effort against Washington in Week 7. The Giants still remain dead last in both their NFC East division, and in scoring this season with 12.1 points. Meanwhile the Jets went into their Week 7 bye with a pair of wins, and a one-score loss to Kansas City the week before.

Kickoff Sunday goes at 1 p.m. EDT with the Jets a three-point favourite on what should be considered a neutral field. The over-under is at 36.5 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

When you rank 32nd in points in a 32-team league, you’re like going to see most of your games go under the total and that’s exactly the case for the Giants who have had one game this season go over. The Giants outright record of 2-5 also matches their record ATS this season. The Jets are 4-2 ATS and now 8-1 ATS in their last nine October outings.

These teams last faced off in November 2019 where the Jets squeaked out a 34-27 victory in a battle between Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones. In 2023, the quarterback matchup is expected to be Zach Wilson vs. Tyrod Taylor, but whether they can go off for a 61-point game is improbable.

New York Jets

The Jets upset of undefeated Philadelphia the last time New York took the field was even more impressive considering both of their cornerbacks, Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, did not play due to concussions. New York’s bye week seems to have the dynamic duo all healed up as both were full participants at practice Wednesday.

A week off also provided running back Breece Hall with more time to truly get rested as he’s been ramped up to a larger workload. Hall received 34 carries in New York’s last two wins and turned them into 216 yards and two scores. He’s New York’s top weapon on offence, and a key reason to why quarterback Zach Wilson’s starting to find his footing with this Jets team.

New York Giants

Head coach Brian Daboll has made it clear Daniel Jones will be the Giants starter when he’s healthy, but it appears Jones’ neck injury will keep him out another week. That means Tyrod Taylor will get his third start this season, and a third chance to crack over 14 points on offence. Taylor’s unit put together a nice second quarter last week that included touchdown strikes to Darren Waller and Saquon Barkley, but that was it for the scoring — and all they needed.

Outside of a trip to Miami, the Giants have really stepped it up on defence. Last week they turned away 14 of Washington’s 15 third-down attempts and held Buffalo to under 300 yards the week before. Under 300 yards allowed is definitely an achievable goal for the Giants this week, and one that’s probably required if they’re to come out on top in the battle of New York.
