Jets vs. Falcons Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction

The Jets and Falcons are still searching for their first win of this preseason and they’ll get that opportunity in Atlanta on Thursday evening. Both starting Quarterbacks are expected to get reps in this one, but if you miss the first quarter, you will likely miss their appearances.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These two teams don’t have much history playing against each other. In the last four games played over the last 14 years, the Falcons are 3-1 in four games against the Jets. Dating back to last season, the Jets are now 1-4 in their last five preseason games.

The Falcons are now 0-2 this preseason after losing to the Dolphins last week and the Broncos during the Hall of Fame game in Canton. Atlanta is now 7-3 in their last 10 Thursday night games.

The biggest stat of this game; the Falcons are an incredible 0-10 against the spread in their last 10 preseason games.

New York Jets

Jets starter Sam Darnold played one series of downs in the team’s loss to the Giants last week. Darnold was 4-of-5 for 68 yards and a touchdown pass. He is expected to see action in this game, and probably not much more than what he played in during week one.

The Jets had a rough week on the injury-front as the team’s top Cornerback Trumaine Johnson is now listed as week-to-week with a hamstring injury, while back-up Kyron Brown went down with a similar type injury. Take into consideration this off-season the Jets opted not to resign Morris Claiborne (Kansas City) so the team’s depth at the position is quite low.

The Jets are now officially open for business in the kicking game as Chandler Catanzaro announced his retirement from the NFL after struggling during the team’s preseason opener against the Giants. Chandler missed two extra-point attempts Thursday in his last game in the league.

Atlanta Falcons

Starter Matt Ryan did not see the field in week one of the preseason, but that will change for this home game in week two. Ryan is expected to play less than a quarter of work before giving way to the two other Matt’s on the roster (Schaub & Simms).

Running back Devonte Freeman has been injury-prone the past two seasons, missing 16 combined games, so don’t be surprised if he is limited in his debut this weekend after missing last week’s game in Miami. Ito Smith, Brian Hill, Kenjon Barner, and Tony Brooks-James will see consistent action over the course of the preseason.

Of note, Receiver Calvin Ridley was back at practice this week after being out of a few weeks with a hamstring injury. Although the Falcons have not commented on his status for this game; it would be unlikely that he plays.
