Jets vs. Dolphins Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction
The Jets are hoping Darnold can repeat some of what he did the last time he faced Miami as the Jets visit the Dolphins this Sunday. Darnold made his share of mistakes in that 20-12 defeat, but also showed plenty of promise as well, throwing for a career-best 334 yards in defeat.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Neither of these teams instil much confidence in spread bettors. The Jets have covered just two of their past seven games and are a dismal 1-4 ATS in their past five on the road. The Dolphins are 0-4-1 ATS in their previous five November games, and have converted just two covers in their last nine games against divisional opponents. But the Jets do have a huge historical edge, having gone 16-5-1 ATS in their past 22 visits to Miami.
This game carries one of the lowest totals of any Week 9 contest at 45 – and there might very well be some value in the over, given how both teams have fared against the number. The Jets are 4-1 O/U in their last five games and have gone over the total in nine of their past 13 following a straight-up loss. Miami is a perfect 4-0 O/U in its past four games at Hard Rock Stadium and is a red-hot 13-6 O/U in its previous 19 outings overall.
New York Jets
If the Jets have any hope of avenging that Week 2 home defeat to the Dolphins, they’ll need to do a much better job on the ground. New York has averaged a paltry 2.8 yards per carry on a whopping 111 attempts in their five losses, and produced fewer than 75 rushing yards in four of those games. Fortunately for the Jets, the Dolphins have struggled to contain the run this season, ranking tied for 24th in yards per carry allowed (4.6).
Miami Dolphins
There’s playing down to the competition – and then there’s what the Dolphins do when they play at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami is just 19-46-3 ATS in its previous 66 home games against teams with losing road records, a string of futility stretching over the better part of a decade. If that trend is to be reversed, it will happen with Brock Osweiler under center – he has been named the Sunday starter with regular No. 1 Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) still ailing.
