The Colts badly need a bounce-back game after an ugly Carson Wentz interception in overtime essentially cost the Colts the game last week.

The Thursday night game in Week 8 was a spectacular showdown between NFC contenders. The Week 9 matchup? A bit ugly as the sad-sack New York Jets visit the Indianapolis Colts.

Indy is a 10.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds with a total of 46.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Jets already are playing out the string on another losing season and are without rookie No. 2 overall pick/quarterback Zach Wilson, who will miss at least one more week and probably 1-2 more with a strained PCL in his knee. Wilson had been struggling mightily as it was. Indianapolis made the playoffs last year and is possibly good enough to do so again. The Colts got off to a rough start in large part due to a slew of injuries but are playing better now.

Dating to their Baltimore days, the Colts lead the all-time series vs. the Jets 43-32. They did play last season and Indianapolis rolled at home 36-7 in Week 3. Sam Darnold was the New York quarterback then and was horrendous with three interceptions, two returned for touchdowns. It was the first time since October 1970 the Colts returned two interceptions for scores. Philip Rivers was the Indy quarterback but is now retired.

The total has gone over in seven of the past 10 meetings.

New York Jets

Could there be a quarterback controversy with the Jets? Not this week because rookie No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson is not ready to return from injury, but backup Mike White made things interesting on Sunday. In his first NFL start, White threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns (also two picks) in a 34-31 big upset of the Cincinnati Bengals. White joined Cam Newton (422 yards on Sept. 11, 2011) as the only quarterbacks since 1950 to pass for at least 400 yards in their first career start. Top wideout Corey Davis didn’t play; he might Thursday. Rookie running back Michael Carter had his best game as a pro with 77 yards and a TD rushing and nine catches for 95 yards. The Jets are 2-6 ATS in their past eight as underdogs.

Indianapolis Colts

Any shot the Colts had of winning the AFC South likely vanished Sunday in a 34-31 home OT loss to the Titans, who won the season series and thus hold the tiebreaker on top of a three-game lead. Indy quarterback Carson Wentz largely had been playing mistake-free football of late, but he threw two of the worst interceptions you will see vs. the Titans, including one in OT that set up Tennessee’s winning field goal. Wentz had thrown just one pick all year entering the game. Starting receiver TY Hilton and safety Khari Willis both were injured in the loss and both will miss at least Thursday. The Colts are 1-4 ATS in their past five as favourites.
