The Buffalo Bills can finish a perfect regular season at home when they host the disappointing New York Jets on Sunday.

An eighth home victory would also keep a shot at first place alive for the 12-3 Bills, although second in the AFC is most likely for Buffalo if everything holds as is. A 19-9 defeat for the Jets last week dropped them to 4-11 on the season, which is right at the wrong end of a logjam of bad NFL teams. Despite the 11 losses, the Jets currently hold the eighth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. A Bills win would probably help both sides, and that may come easier if a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers can’t suit up with a potential knee injury.

Kickoff at Highmark Stadium goes at 1 p.m. EST with the Bills a -10 favourite on the point spread, New York +400 to pull off an upset win, and the over-under at 47 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Bills are a perfect 4-0 against the AFC East this season but it hasn’t been easy. Three of the four victories have come by exactly three points, including last week’s 24-21 home win against New England. Buffalo defeated New York 23-20 back on October 14, a game in which the Jets outgained Buffalo 393-359 in yardage. Then there’s the Jets 22-16 overtime win over the Bills last season, the infamous win in which Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles. So long story short, New York’s been playing Buffalo consistently close despite the difference in records.

Five of the last six Jets–Bills contests have finished under the total, but Buffalo enters Week 17 as the second-highest scoring offence with 31.3 points per game. New York’s scored 25 points in back-to-back road outings too, so the “under” trend between these clubs could get reversed.

New York Jets

Three failed fourth-down attempts, a missed field, and a fumble led to the Jets finishing last Sunday’s defeat in rare territory. New York scored nine points despite not punting once. The Jets became the second team in NFL history to not score 10 points in a game in which they didn’t punt, and the only other time it happened was in 1950. Eight times a team hasn’t punted this NFL season, and those eight teams averaged 31.3 points. Aaron Rodgers offence faltered when it mattered most, which is a good summary of their entire season.

On a positive note, Davante Adams stayed on fire with seven grabs for 68 yards and a touchdown last week. Adams has four consecutive outings with double-digit targets and needs 72 yards to reach his fifth straight 1,000-yard season. Aaron Rodgers, who again is dealing with a knee injury this week, is one touchdown pass shy of 500 in his career.

Buffalo Bills

Last week’s 24-21 win over New England turned out to be a letdown spot for Buffalo, and they still squeaked by thanks to a defensive score and big day from running back James Cook. It only took 11 rushing attempts for Cook to reach 100 on Sunday, and he also ended up as Buffalo’s leading receiver with 26 yards through the air. Josh Allen came back down to Earth with a 16-of-29 day for 154 yards and one touchdown and interception. Allen remains the favourite to win the NFL MVP at -500 odds.

Buffalo could be getting some much-needed help in the secondary this week too as cornerback Rasul Douglas (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Safeties Taylor Rapp (knee) and Damar Hamlin (ribs), as well as linebacker Matt Milano (biceps/groin) were all limited. QB Josh Allen (elbow/shoulder) appeared on the injury report too but was a full participant.
