Jets vs. Bears Week 4 Odds, Prediction and Picks: Chicago Opens -3.5 Without Caleb William
We have big-market football in NFL Week 4 but perhaps don’t expect very good offensive football on Sunday when the New York Jets visit Chicago, who are on a short week and without starting QB Caleb Williams. The Bears are still 3.5-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 43.5.

NFL Betting Odds, Point Spread, Trends
What do these franchises have in common first and foremost? Their second-year head coaches are former Lions coordinators. Ex-Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson had an amazingly successful first year in Chicago with a division title and playoff win, and more was expected this season. But now it all likely rests on when star QB and former No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams gets back from a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The typical time away for that type of injury is 3-4 weeks.
Meanwhile, ex-Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is running the show with the Jets. His first year was a 3-14 disaster, and Glenn entered 2026 on a hot seat, but the team has looked much more competitive in the early going. I wouldn’t go expecting a winning record. And the Jets still don’t have anything close to a long-term QB.
Chicago leads the all-time series 13-9 but got clobbered in the last one, 31-10 in New Jersey in November 2022. That Bears team was horrendous.
NFL Player Odds and Props
For the Jets, take No. 2 tailback Braelon Allen for an anytime touchdown and that’s because the No. 1 guy is hurt as I will get into below. Allen has 19 carries for 61 yards and a TD this year but might match all those numbers Sunday alone. For Chicago, I like either Case Keenum or Tyson Bagent to throw a pick (whichever starts) even though the Jets haven’t had one in an NFL-record 20 straight games.
New York Jets
New York is not that far from 3-0. It easily took care of business Week 1 at Tennessee, lost a tough one in overtime vs. Green Bay in Week 2 (blowing a 10-point fourth-quarter lead) and then pushed a Super Bowl-calibre Lions team to the end in a 31-24 road loss Sunday. Detroit didn’t score the winning TD until just over two minutes remained. Veteran journeyman Geno Smith, benched last season in Las Vegas but the Jets’ starting QB because they just don’t have anyone better, had one of the games of his career in completing 31 of 37 for 321 yards and three scores. With a chance to tie, the Jets were on the Detroit 28 when Smith lost a fumble after a blitzing safety sacked him to seal it. Excellent but injury-prone tailback Breece Hall suffered a quad injury that was good news, but he’s week-to-week. Left guard Dylan Parham (knee) was also injured in the game and didn’t return. Star wideout Garrett Wilson missed the final play of the game while he was evaluated for a concussion, but he cleared protocol and is OK.
Chicago Bears
The NFL is a funny game. No one expected the Bears to win at home Monday night at +3.5 against unbeaten Philadelphia and that very good defence while quarterbacked by third-stringer Case Keenum. The 38-year-old hadn’t started in the NFL since 2023. But he led a shocking 27-7 upset by completing 24 of 34 for 247 yards and two scores while also running for his first TD since 2019. Keenum was so polished, which is why coach Ben Johnson convinced him to not retire and join the team largely as a leader and QB mentor in Johnson’s first 2025 season. So does Johnson go to backup Tyson Bagent on Sunday now that he will have a full week in practice or does Keenum keep the spot? The Chicago defence was very shaky in Week 1 but had a second straight strong game in holding the Eagles to 248 yards and forcing three turnovers – the specialty of that unit. The Bears are now 8-0 since 2025 when forcing at least three takeaways.
