Two weeks ago, the Jaguars and Panthers were on the brink of starting the season 0-3. Now one of these two teams will enter Week 6 with a 3-2 record.

Carolina is the home favourite and undefeated since Kyle Allen took over for Cam Newton. But Jacksonville has its own story of magical story in the form of pop culture darling Gardner Minshew II.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sports Interaction set the Panthers as 3.5-point home chalk with a 41-point over/under line. Neither the spread or total have moved since but that doesn’t mean the action has been even. About 61 percent of SIA bettors are backing the Jaguars as 3.5-point underdogs.

The AFC South seems to be wide open in the eyes of the bookmakers. Jacksonville is the third favourite at +300 with Tennessee narrowly behind at +350. Houston is the favourite at +163 and Indianapolis is next at +275.

Carolina is +450 to win the NFC South – well behind the favoured New Orleans Saints (-200). The Panthers are coming off a 16-10 win over the Houston Texans as 5.5-point underdogs. Jacksonville, meanwhile, is fresh off a 26-24 road win at Denver. The two teams are a combined 4-0 straight up and against the spread over the last two weeks.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Gardner Minshew is the big name in northern Florida these days. The sixth round draft pick out of Washington State has thrown seven touchdowns against just one interception since taking over as the team’s starting QB.

He isn’t piling up huge numbers, but his care with the football is giving the Jags’ run game and defence a chance to win ball games. Running back Leonard Fournette ran for over 200 yards last weekend. He could be in for another big day this weekend.

Keep an eye on the injury report leading up to the game. Minshew injured his ankle in the final drive against Denver. He missed a bit of practice this week and is listed as questionable to play on Sunday. Joshua Dobbs is the next QB on the depth chart.

Carolina Panthers

Kyle Allen is undefeated as the Panthers’ starting quarterback, but he’s not the person carrying Carolina. That person is none other than Christian McCaffrey. The all-purpose running back collected 179 yards from scrimmage on 37 touches – including one highlight reel catch.
